No problem with using those jokes, I guess it's just that jokes like that are overused in general, and while still funny, while you're laughing you're also thinking god, how many times has this been done before?

I saw Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix last weekend (I mainly went to make fun of it, which there were some good parts to do so in [Oh yeah horsey, choke down that big slobbery worm!]), and it was shit, like most of Rowling's work/work based off of Rowling's work.
Attempts to portray Harry as 'emotionally maturing' made him appear angsty and emo. Plus, Gandalf wasn't in it. W--T--F. When the hell is Gandalf coming in?!?!

To whomever mentioned it: "The Butterfly Effect" was a surprisingly entertaining film. If you like chaos theory, you'll have a blast! If I'm not mistaken, it also has two different endings (one in the theatrical release, and one in the "director's cut").

Well, I watched Cube.
It's a Canadian movie about six strangers trapped in a huge complex of cubes. Every cube is identical, except for it's wall color. None of the strangers know where the complex is, what it is, or why they're here. Most rooms are littered with lethal traps, such as an acid-to-face trap, which actually burns a whole in your head, or the whole room being filled with spears that skewer the person/people in it.
The film only cost 365,000 CAD, and in fact only one cube was built. At the end, the strangers find out that you only needed to stay in the starting room to get a bridge to the "outside" (the cubes move around).

Pan's Labyrinth (Spanish) literally The Labyrinth of the Faun. (subtitled)
Though the original title referred only to the mythological faun, the English title refers to the faun-like Greek god Pan.
Pan's Labyrinth, set in post-Civil War Spain, tells the story of a girl named Ofelia who is given three tasks by a mysterious faun. Meanwhile, her stepfather, the fascist Captain Vidal, viciously hunts for rebels in the region, and her pregnant mother grows ill.
The film, which garnered several Golden Globes and three Academy Awards.

The two species have are pretty much in the same universe (movie-wise). The Predator films are considered part of the Alien world. It is even clearly shown in the Predator movies, where there is an Alien skull. The idea of AVP is brilliant, just the execution sucked. I went out to see Halloween with my older bros because they are die-hard Halloween fans. they've seen em all, and I've seen most of them, and everyone i saw was awesome, so I had to tag in.
I havent been to a theatre in a while, but the tickets were $9.75! Argh! I still regret even considering spending that much on seeing a movie. To top it off, I was skeptical about Rob Zombie inheriting the Halloween series. And I was right. He really twisted it up. In case you dont know, the whole Halloween series is about a serial killer with a zombie mask. All the movies have been serious gore fests. I mean Mortal Kombat-fatality style gore fests. However, this movie gave an obvious impression that Rob Zombie was a Halloween fan. But he wrecked it really. I dont have a problem with sex scenes in movies, but Rob managed to cram 3 full 15-year old sex scenes in the goddamn movie. And every single one ended exactly the same. Those sex scenes managed to take up like 40% of the movie. I was pissed. It's a goddamn HORROR MOVIE not a child porno. And some of the murders were kinda boring and unimaginative. Some were pretty good (especially the first one) but others looked like they had the potential to be a lot more brutal and badass, but they ended up not. I dunno. I kinda hated that movie.
If you like teen sex with bloody endings, you'll like this movie.
If you wanted a traditional Halloween movie, you'll hate this movie.
If you'll want to learn about the history of micheal myers, you'll give this movie a "ehh.. it's okay."

I just finished watching Alien: Resurrection. Meh. A bit of a stretch. Really it should have ended at Aliens (which I watched yesterday :D), but Alien3 (also yesterday) wasn't THAT horrible. But Resurrection was retarded. They cloned Ripley, took out the queen, but she inherited some alien traits. Then, they get ANOTHER synthetic, and to top it all off, the queen gives a live birth to a human-alien hybrid which proceeds to rip her head off and except Ripley as its mother.

Alien was classic. Aliens is probably the best action/horror film ever made. Alien 3 was actually pretty dark and interesting, but in no way did it capture the perfection of Aliens or feel as... i dunno, it didn't feel as complete as either of the others. Resurrection was fun, but a throwaway in the series. AvP had really cool creature effects, but a pretty awful plot. It was fun seeing Bishop in an Alien film again :)

The virus is believed to have originated from a group calling themselves "The Army of the 12 Monkeys".
Really, you'd have to see the entire movie to fully get it, with all the time travel and what-not. It has a very strange ending.

Just another boring "I agree" post: "12 Monkeys" was thoroughly enjoyable. Did you know that it was directed by a Monty Python-member? (Terry Gilliam, who also directed two other favourites of mine: "The Fisher King" and "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas")

I just watched this EXTREMELY cheap movie on the Sci-Fi channel, called Dead Men Walking, about a zombie infestation in a prison. It was so low budget, I don't think they could afford more than 10 or so blanks, for a 9mm pistol. The rest of the time when fired, the tips of the guns were just barely offscreen, and the actors faked such terrible recoil.
It was great.

And Venom didn't take over the bulky football player as it did in the cartoon series, but at least the freaky Venom was in there.

The problem with an invincible/invulnerable superhero who has no weaknesses is that the stories will get boring and predictable too quickly. Hence the use of kryptonite as a device to create some element of suspense.

The Number 23. Pretty good. It wasn't that easy to figure out, as some movies are these days. It was made in a cool way, and at times it was hard to tell whether the story was in real life or a book (in the movie). The ending was pretty lame, though.

For the most part I rented this because I want to see the whole trilogy, mostly because the only one I've seen was Army of Darkness.

watched Mr. Brooks last night. Alright overall story and execution, felt that the whole Demi Moore storyline was weak and the Matrix-style shootout with the escaped convict was over-the-top and out of place.

This is not strictly a movie, but I have been watching HBO's Band of Brothers on DVD. It is an amazingly produced series, and highly recommended for drama and action.

Some of the better WW2 stuff, no doubt. Doesn't beat The Unknown Soldier (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0048752/), though. ;)

Apocalypto.
Bad.
I must be about the only person in the world that didn't really care for Borat. I mean, it was mildly amusing in parts, but it was dumb.
That's arguably true. It was a little funny but the movie wasn't really going anywhere. It's basically the new Napoleon Dynamite.

Strangely, I enjoyed Borat a lot, but I hate Napoleon Dynamite. Anyhoo, what was so bad about Apocalypto?

Saw "30 Days of Night" last night. It was alright, there were some areas of bad dialog and logic leaps. Plus the gore was insane. Overall, I give it a 5/10.

I was thinking something along those lines, but I'll reserve judgment until it's out. Whether I go and see it or not is another thing. Personally I prefer to stay clear of game - film conversions, but we'll see.
And congrats on your 8th 666th post DD. :p

Borat is supposed to be excellent! That's one on my "To See" list. But lately, it's been Monty Python and coincidentally, Pulp Fiction. Brilliant movies.

I'll really have to convince my friends to watch "The thing". It's just really freaky and that made it quite entertaining for me :p
It's been too long since I'd seen it and my friends never understand what I'm talking about when I do talk about it.

I have experienced the Hitman movie.
It's not as bad as I expected it to be; the acting is dry, the lead-up to the fight on the train is idiotic and melodramatic (I couldn't stop laughing), and the actor playing 47 doesn't have the sinister edge to his voice like the REAL (game voice actor) 47 does.
But the hand-to-hand fighting is surprisingly well choreographed, the hit in the restaurant is great, and the girl's boobies are exposed! TWICE!! *eek*
It's like a cheap ripoff of the Bourne movies. So it's probably worth watching, but if you're a fan of the games you're going to complain that there wasn't enough Diana (there wasn't), and the Agency is called the Agency, not the "Organization".

Man of the Year on DVD. Best little political satire/comedy/quasi-thriller that you never heard of. Starring Robin Williams, Laura Linney, Christopher Walken, and Jeff Goldblum. Hilarious with just the right degree of thought-provoking.

I saw Man of the Year in the theater. It wasn't quite what I expected, but it was still pretty good. If Nader doesn't run next year, I'm writing in Tom Dobbs. :P
Man of the Year really ignores most of real politics, though. For example, he had no running mate! That's one of the most important parts of the presidential elections.

Ckick on DVD
Adam Sandler as the corporate-ladder-climbing schmuck who sacrifies life in order to get ahead in his career, and Christopher Walken as a seemingly harmless tinkerer. Not too bad - occasionally hilarious but with predictable gags and story-line.

Just watched Battlefield Earth. The actual movie wasn't terrible, but the premise... What a load of crap. LOL WER ALEIUMS AND WER STELIN UR GOLD. As if gold is really that rare in the universe. It would be a little more believable if it were Iridium, or some other rare metal. Also, Hubbard's depiction of the humans' over-primitiveness is really insulting. LOL WUT R NUMBERS
I think it just makes me despise Hubbard that much more.
