Hi all! I'm new to this forum but not Doom. Been playing it since it first came out as a shareware game.

So, I thought it was about time I put my little grey cells to work and create my own level.

That looks very fancy mister. Please tell us when you're finished with the map, so I can take a peek.

For a first wad, it looks really good. How much time will it take before it´s finished?

Well I think it looks good whether or not it's the first map. Only thing that's bothering me is the lack of light variation.

I'd say that the only things that are off for me are the texturing for the building in shot one (the red looks odd) and as Fatal said, the lack of lighting. However, this is a very good start. You've got variating themes, custom textures (something I've rarely seen in first maps), proper texture alignment, a good outdoor area, and a slime tunnel!

All you need now is some refinement (mostly on the lighting) and I can see this becoming one of the very few good first wads I have ever seen. ;)

This is not bad for an first map pretty good actually.

Ok a few things that cought my eye, it needs more light variation make the inside areas an bit darker and some light around wall and ceiling lights, the door at the entrance can use more work and the exit door looks weird as well, are you using compblue for the fountain outside it looks like it.

Thanks for all your kind comments, it's spured me on to do more. As for the lighting, thats what i'm doing now. Also inputting things. The red textures at the beginning were done to make it totally different from other buildings, which all seem to be grey, brown or green or a combination of all three. I just wanted to be different or maybe I was smoking something wierd at the time.

As for time left to complete; good question. I'm having a bit of trouble getting it to run on certain ports. Risen3d is no problem, the others are. I should say a couple of weeks and it should be more or less ready.

I have tried to incorporate some sort of difficulty and puzzles. I've also used a wide variety of textures, trying not to stick to the standard Doom ones. As I said before, I'm new to this designing lark but I can only get better.

Puzzles are good. Please have plenty of them. Next to no maps have proper puzzles.

Hi all, just thought I'de add another bit about my first wad. I was looking at it last night and came to the conclusion that it was not upto my standard. So I re-vamped the whole thing and I'm a much happier bunny now. You'll probably say it didn't need it. Well take a gander at the lastest screenies and let me know. I know there's no monsters in it yet; but there will be.

A new start. Look, no more red.

I've also got the lighting sorted this time.

Really good work so far,
For the lightning, I would have some inner sections darker (not totally dark but still darker)
One more thing you could do, if you have the patience, is gradient lightning

Thanks for the tip LordRaven, I didin't realise it was there till now, but Doom Builder has a gradient lighting button to do it all for you. That will come in handy for the stairs.

Hehehe, I wandered in here expecting a big room with monsters in it and maybe some unclosed sectors. I was very pleasantly surprised! :D

These guys told you enough about the look of the map. Just find one you like.
