I've never understood the practice of only allowing people to have custom titles after posting so much. It always just ends up with people spamming to get their titles. I find it better to just allow it from the beginning.

I never understood people who bitch about how they can't have a custom title yet or how they don't like the name of the low rank on a forum with ranks. Get over it. When we join new forums we have the same stuff.

Oh yeah. I think there was some problem with that when Phoebs upgraded the forum software from vB 2 to vB 3 or something like that. You should be able to PM him and get that taken care of.

I'm for restricting avatars until the person has established themselves as a contributing presence. Titles not so much as the signature is available from post zero and can just be put there. And text has low overhead compared to avatars.

Agreed, Keen is keen! He's the first avatar, because he was chronologically first.
It's really all in how you look at it. :)
But my advice is not to place too much importance on it.
As a new member, first thing to do is read the FAQ (http://forums.newdoom.com/faq.php), before posing such questions or critiques of established forum features, as that's the best place to start & not make too many common mistakes.
