I just loaded JDoom, and the detail is incredible.
I tried using the saved games from the standard doom II engine, and they crash JDoom. I wouldn't care, but I'm on level 28 and trying to finish it...
Any way to convert the games saved under the standard engine to the JDoom engine?
Thanks

As far as I know, nope, you can't convert save games over to jdoom. I suggest that since you're so far in the game (only three maps to go!), you finish it with the basic doom 2, and then move on to jdoom as the regular choice.
May I add, a fine choice, sir!

Save games from the original versions of DOOM should indeed work with jDoom. Which version of jDoom are you using?
Please send me your saved game and I can use it to debug. My email is danij@dengine.net

Danij, thanks for the help. I'll email you the .dsg file. Release levels:
Kickstart 2.09
JDResource 1.01
JDoom 1.14.0
Doom II (where the saved file came from) - Not sure, I got it as part of a collectors edition with Doom II, final doom & ultimate doom.

Kickstart? Thats a very old version of doomsday.
www.doomsdayhq.com
Go there and download the newest version (1.9.0 beta5), but be sure to do a fresh install as it will not work otherwise. :)

First, ignore the people telling you to download and install any of the 1.90 Beta versions. While these are the latest versions of the program, they are BETA versions, which means that they aren't finished. All of them have serious bugs that will most likely prevent you from finishing the games. At the very least, they will ruin your enjoyment of the games if you're constantly wondering "Did I miss a switch somewhere, or is this a bug?"
The version you should be using is 1.8.6 which you can download here if you don't already have it;
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=74815&package_id=75786
Click on 1.8.6, then click on the link that says "deng-inst-1.8.6.exe". This is what I used to play all the way through Ultimate Doom, Doom 2 and the first half of Final Doom (TNT Evilution). The second half of Final Doom, The Plutonia Experiment was too tough for me. The very first level is full of creatures that take lots of ammo to kill and ammo was in pretty short supply. Not to mention that almost every step of the way is boobytrapped so that you get ambushed at the worst possible time.
BTW, to see the version number of Doomsday, look at the Readme.txt file in the Doc directory of wherever Doomsday is installed.

If you go slow and take your time, plutonia is possible and challenging. But I have to agree that the creators really abused chaingunners and arch viles...

I always go slow and take my time. :)
In fact, my friend gets frustrated watching me play because I'll reload a saved game if I think I've expended too much ammo trying to kill something. For example, if there's something that normally dies with two shotgun blasts and it takes me 5 shots to kill it because it's moving behind an obstacle in an area I can't physically get to, I'll reload a saved game and try again.
I just got frustrated at how often I'd have to reload because I got ambushed and then spend the next half hour trying to snipe something that can cut you to sheds in seconds.
