Path of Heroes is a new hard/rock metal band in which I am a guitarist. (that's me playing the intro, and me again doing the first solo, plus other stuff) Today was our second practice, and attached to this post is a very rough draft of a song we're writing. The quality is horrendous, but that only makes it cooler. Eventually, it will be an overture of a 2112-style epic.

The last part is too repetitive (3 chords) and there need to be transitions between sections.

Please download and give feedback.

EDIT: My solo is the one with more of the fast picking and Teamawesome (from The Abyss) solos with a lot of bending.

I couldn't find a proper melody from the tune, except from time to time (1:30 for example, had some potential), but usually the guitarist played a bit wrong in a jiffy.

From a bit before 4:00 until the end, I get this awful feeling like someone is doing filthy things to whatever you used in recording.

Well, I'm hoping each little riff can be expanded and extended so individual parts aren't so brief. So maybe when that happens it'll be more catchy and enticing.

Practice makes perfect. Keep on practicing, use a methronome and try different chord structures (I´m not sure of what you´re playing but sounds awfully like A,G,F,E during a lot of time!!!). Anyway, as for the solo, a very nice beginning and cool sense of melody in some parts. I´m sure you can do better if you just sit and try to imagine nice melodies :).

Get a drummer as soon as possible, you will improve a lot if you take it seriously with him: for rock music a drummer is very much needed to make things sound :).

Finally, a very cool name for a band!!!. Keep the practice and watch for your sound too: it could be the recording thing you´re using but you could use a bit more of overdrive during your solo!.

We actually have a drummer; our recording device barely picked up the sound. Hopefully I will have a higher-quality version quite soon. :)

And about the overdrive comment; it sounds quite heavy in the lower ranges but seems to lose distortion way up high on the neck like that. *shrug*

No, it's my fault. I had to turn up my amp mid-song so my solo could be heard, but then I left it up too high when I started the chords, and it drowned out Teamawesome's solo with static. :(
