View Full Version : Peter Jackson Not Doing The Hobbit Now

Everybody assumed that Peter Jackson would be the first pick on Newline Cinema's list to do The Hobbit BUT due to a dispute he has with Newline Jackson Won't Be Doing The Hobbit (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/6167972.stm). Jackson, a devoted Tolkien fan, said he had been removed from the Hobbit project by New Line, who also hold the rights to a second Lord of the Rings prequel.
Personally I can see The Hobbit turn into a piece of crap now. *cranky* I hope I'm wrong.

Well, we all know what happens to movies when Hollywood messes with this sort of thing. Unfortunately I fear that this will have already dug The Hobbit's grave.

Yeah Hollywood fucks up a lot.
Apparently they made over a billion dollars on the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Jackson is asking for $100 Million that they owe him, so they give him the heave and will probably replace him with some 'Uwe Boll' movie hacker type of director..

Well, no doubt that there are very low chances of it being as good as it would have been with Jackson behind the wheel, but hopefully they can find someone who can still make it work out well.
And yeah, the fact that he's going to work on the Halo movie but not this screams sellout indeedy.

Nomad, the Halo movie has been discontinued. Or something along those lines, but surely they'll pick it up again one day (what Microsoft would do for money).
I was sure Peter Jackson would be doing The Hobbit, but now that he isnt, I can see it turning into a right POS.

Aye, the Halo movie is (thankfully) on hold.
GS: Can you give us a status update on the production and financing of the Halo movie?
Brian Jarrard: As was previously announced, the Halo movie is on hold at the moment, following the dissolution of our partnership with Universal and Fox. We don't have anything new to report on that front right now.

I just found out that Jackson directed Dead/Alive (Also known as BrainDead). Holy shit that movie was awesome.
That's a weird thing happening with directors these days. Peter Jackson and the likely extremely low budget for Dead/Alive, going on to direct those huge budget movies I'm sure we all know of by now. Sam Raimi starting off with the Evil Dead movies, and moving on to blockbuster huge budget movies like Spiderman.
That's crazy.

As far as I know, he's only a executive producer on the Halo film and he's certainly not directing it.

George Lucas made "THX 1138" (an excellent sci-fi drama) and "American Graffiti" (an excellent drama). THX 1138 has always meant much to him, and he's often included references to that film later on. For example, Luke mentions a "prisoner transfer from cellblock 1138" in "Star Wars", and IIRC a license plate in "American Graffiti" says THX 138. Also, guess how George came up with the name for the THX standard. ;-)

I had the correct answer, but the email address you provided didn't ask for any address to which it would then send the yogurt. I feel like this is some sort of scam, but I'm sure it's just a misunderstanding.

To make up for not having Peter Jackson, New Line cinema has decided that The Hobbit will now be dirrected by Michael Jackson.
All the hobbits will be played by 12 year old boys.

On another account, please shush on the penis rings, I'm working out a new fashion that makes the connection between those and weddings *weird*
And, in PS, we require your full address, ZIP-code (if any), secret place where you keep your spare key (if any), cellphone number, And the following PIN codes:cellphone, credit card and bank card
Furthermore, we would appreciate your Bank account number, for if we run out of expired yoghurt (you'd be surprised to see these things fly out the door almost by themselves!) we can send you 1£ per pot you would get.
If you feel like sharing anything else with us, just remember: We're your best friend =)

George Lucas made "THX 1138" (an excellent sci-fi drama) and "American Graffiti" (an excellent drama).Yes, those were indeed excellent films, artistically an otherwise.
On the downside, though, Lucas has already "revised" his THX 1138 on DVD (which I have) as he did to the original Star Wars trilogy. AFAIK, there is no unmolested version of THX 1138 available on DVD.
IIRC, American Graffiti is the only one of his works that he hasn't re-worked and fucked up (yet...).
Aliotroph?
December 13th, 2006, 06:42 PM
What'd he change in THX-1138? I don't even recall which version I've seen.
WinstonSmith6079
December 13th, 2006, 08:38 PM
He added new CGI-filled scenes, and added CGI to some of the old scenes. For all the great technology that CGI can afford, they seriously don't fit so seamlessly with the rest of the film.
Perhaps needless to say, those additions were not needed as the film was great already. Why fix that which is not broken? ???
Aliotroph?
December 13th, 2006, 09:44 PM
Because he made it and he considered it broken? How many times have you seen that done with DooM levels? :p
WinstonSmith6079
December 13th, 2006, 09:50 PM
Oh dear God! You're serious, aren't you? Excuse me McFly! *raps on Aliotroph's head* I think Doom levels and motion-pictures are distinct, as in they're two totally different mediums. But I guess you wouldn't know that, Aliotroph. Never mind, 'coz trying to explain the difference would only confuse you.
Aliotroph?
December 13th, 2006, 09:55 PM
They are both art. Both of them provide an immersive and hopefully entertaining experience. 'nuff said. You tend to turn on the name-calling circuits before even bothering with an argument containing real points.
WinstonSmith6079
December 13th, 2006, 10:12 PM
Now you're just being ridiculous, Aliotroph. The point was in there, but you didn't notice and I'm not going to break it down nor spell it out to you.
Except for this: Revising Doom levels (which has been done entirely differently than Lucas has done with his films) is one thing; revising a feature-film is another thing.
It's not cool that Lucas has revised his films--some of them several times each--that were already as if perfection to begin with, see.
Aliotroph?
December 13th, 2006, 10:19 PM
No, that's just your opinion. Revising feature films has been common and many of them have special editions and director's cuts that are much better. Revising DooM levels isn't really any different, whether you like the practice or not, and has even been done by id.
WinstonSmith6079
December 13th, 2006, 10:22 PM
Yeah well it ain't better in the case of Lucas, and that includes THX 1138 *yawn*
Aliotroph?
December 13th, 2006, 10:43 PM
That topic could be its own thread. Probably several threads. He's clearly milking it for money but eventually we'll probably get a release where Han shoots first, the colours look right, the lightsabers look right and the ghosts don't include young Anikan.
WinstonSmith6079
December 13th, 2006, 10:49 PM
Well there's the Star Wars Limited Edition, but the sold-out money-hungry bastard that Lucas has become didn't seem to see it profitable enough to remaster these classics. *burn*
