"On the night of Saturday Oct 21, 2006, at about 11:50 p.m. while on tour in Britain, Mathews died in a traffic accident in a taxi (a Ford Consul, [reg. no. RBO 869], not as widely quoted a London Taxi) travelling through Chippenham, Wiltshire, on the A4.The taxi crashed into a lamppost on Rowden Hill. There was no other car involved.He was taken to St. Martin's Hospital, Bath, but died at 9:00 a.m. today. No information about the taxi driver could be obtained at the time of this report."
