My Doom guns (WIP)

Sorry, I really didn't know where to put this...I wanted to place this topic with the classic doom games forum, but figured it might do better here. If the mods deem this should go somewhere else, they can move it.

Anyway, still new to the newdoom forums but I have met some really cool People. I've gotten some awesome editing vids from AlysiumX and have done a little of level editing. But one of the main tasks that I have been meaning to set forth and "accomplish" is to build real life versions of the guns made famous in the classic Doom games. In my other art thread some 3d models of the BFG where made to help me do just this...but I figured I'd start "small" and work my way up to a BFG.

The weapon of choice: Teh CHAINGUN!!

Anywho here is my reference picture:

Now I didn't have "blueprint" paper...so I just got several sheets of computer paper and taped them together so I could "draw this to scale". I got a ruler and pencil and "eye-balled it" and got this.

And I made a list of stuff and made a trip to lowes and got wood and PVC pipes. I then traced out the scaled image templates and cut them out.

My belt table saw was acting up (wouldn't cut in a straight line and kept destroying my templates) so I enlisted the help and talent of my local High School's Woodcraft class and got him to cut them for me...for FREE. And with the major cutting out of the way...all I got to do is get a 1/2 inch drill bit and drill out the holes for the barrels.

I'm going to start putting the gun box together this weekend. Hopefully I can get it done soon. Anywho, just wanted to post pics of my progress.

In total agreement that these are great! Please do the BFG9000! It'd look better than some of the crappy collectables out there even made of wood. ;)

heh, you should take some behind the gun pictures of the guns, you could make a very accurate "from the side" version of the doomguns or hi-res versions as sprites for the source ports.

Yeah going to sand it when I'm done, bondo the rough spots and give it about two coats of paint. Copper, silver, and flat black are my colors of choice.

Yeah, I plan to do a BFG...but I gotta start small and "work" my way up. Still got a Plasma gun to do before I even get to the BFG.

Hmm, never thought of that. I quess I could provide many reference pictures of it when I'm done. IT's not 100% "game" accurate, but its as close as I've seen done. We'll see what happens.

Minor update:

Been having problems cutting holes for the barrels with the wood I'm using. I got the correct drill bit but it seems The wood is too weak to drill through and it just breaks. All I have to do is drill 7 holes into a few pieces of wood and I'm done. But since this is holding me up...

I have started a NEW gun project...The Super Shotgun!

Basically I went to a local gun shop, got a stock and reciever for real cheap, got a fore grip off ebay, used gorilla glue to full the insides of the gun (to make it non-firing), and cut some PVC pipes down to size...and bingo...here is my progress so far. Now for some black paint and it will be ready!

Perhaps you could have metal barrels instead of wood ones. Those wouldn't break very easily at least.

I'm currently in the middle of a deal which would get me the pump shotgun (similar to the one in doom) shipped to an FFL dealer in my area. And yes, this one would be REAL compared to my other doom guns I got. So hopefully it all works out in my favor so I can get another doom gun to add to my collection.

Dude, you should make yourself up some Doom style armour and a mask. Alternately you could just paint up some football body armour and a paintball mask to look like the Doom guy's stuff. I was thinking I might do something like that for a low budget Doom movie.

It'd be cool to see someone wearing that stuff wielding the weaponry you've constructed. Maybe if you did that you could get the picture put in the top right of Newdoom.

Ok, first, I won it by helping someone (yeah, I'm a good guy).

Then I repaired and clean it (cause it was totaly rusty).

Then I made it shorter !

Then I neutralized the safety cause it always came on after a reload and it's exasperating for speed shots (see picture).

For me it's enought to be proud !

And now ... I got a Super Shotgun, I got a Super Shotgun !

And I love it !

I think you don't realize the hours of hard work to :

- Dismantle a chainsaw
- Repare a shotgun (gave broken to me / it's a french Manufrance)
- Sawoff a double barrel (it's a Baïkal)
- Buy a Beretta in a french country (6 months of waiting)
- ...
