Here is an idea for a fun little forum game.

Back when DooM editing first started, it was extremely popular, especially among newbies, for people to make levels based on their own homes, their schools, or the places where they worked. In fact, one of the very first user made levels I ever played was based on an office building a guy was working in at the time, with the boss's office containing a baron of hell (hehehehehe). The Unholy Trinity was a popular level, done with the most primative early editors, that reproduced Trinity College, where the author went to school. Unfortunately, this old tradition seems to have died out, so I have decided to revive this old tradition with a forum game.

Using the original DooM or DooM II, or a port of your choosing, I would like to see screenshots from a level or group of levels, based on your home, your school, your workplace, or a major public place near where you live, along with a few photos of the real thing for comparison. The port used should be named, including the version, so as the abilities of the port can be taken into consideration.

Whether or not you decide to make levels available for download is entirely up to you.

There are no real winners or losers in this game, and the game is meant to be ongoing. It is really just a chance for people to show off their editing skills, and to have some fun. Making the level(s) playable is not a requirement, but giving the player the option to clear all the demons out of City Hall, or your school, or the local tourist trap could add some fun to the whole exercise too.

Sound like a good idea?

Does it have to be Doom?

Paranoia, a Half-Life TC map-set that I did for ZDooM some years ago, included an office area that was based on my company's office. Complete with desks, desk-top computers, conference room, book shelves. No baron of hell, however. Just a bunch of ass-kicking government military grunts.
