..but still a good one?
i haven't done doom for a while so these ports are kinda new to me. i'm thinking about making a map and i wanna use something thats closest to doom but doesnt have a bunch of problems and works in windows. i was lookin around in a different doom forum and i first figured boom (stupid name) is the one everything is based off, so a map using that would be the most playable on the most ports. then another guy posted chocolate doom, now that looks the best so far.
any other suggestions?

I think you got the 2 best ones for what you are looking for.

Chocolate is definitely a good choice if your priority is that your map should work with everything, including the original ("vanilla") game. Chocolate imposes the same limits and restrictions as the original game. That gives you a lot less flexibility in the way you can make your map though, and puts a restriction on how large you can make it, for instance. If you're happy with that, then it's a good choice.
Otherwise, if you want to make a map that is compatible with "vanilla" apart from its limits, then you could design it to be suitable for "any limit-removing port". However, there are some pitfalls there, as there aren't many "limit-removing ports" that don't make some other changes (and thus allow things that will cause problems in other exes), or where you don't need to be a little careful how you set them up. If you do want to make a huge map, then say so and people will no doubt make some suggestions.

so original is vanilla, that makes sense now

but i didnt have any ideas either, i got one this time
summer's bored me into making a map cuz i gotta do something constructvie, but i won't even try to start huge cuz i can't start something that'll go into school year that i'll never finish. i know it sure as hell won't match up with some of the new stuff ive been seeing arond these boards. i don't care tho, if i get a few good rooms i'm happy. games and tech was never my specialty anyway
