Believe it or not, I've never actually fully played through any original Doom Game.

Now before you start shouting "HERETIC!", and trieing to sacrifice villages worth of children to your computer to stop my words from infecting your brains, I'm playing through them this summer. I'm also replaying Doom 3 ( Need that special Gun-Mounted Flashlight mod... I get REALLY paranoid REALLY easy, and stay like that for DAYS. Expecially when fighting hordes of Spirits and Demons in dark, enclosed areas. ) So, any tips to aid me in surviving my little foray with the forces of Hell?

Oh, and Backpacks of Ammo are permenant, right? Because 100 Shotgun Shells on me at a time makes me feel safe...

Backpacks are permanent, yes. Unless you die, of course.

Hints:

Strafe, take cover, know when to use which weapons, etc.

Weapons:

1. Fist - Never unless you have Berserk, which only lasts ONE LEVEL.
2. Pistol - Never unless you're out of ammo for everything else and don't have the chaingun.
3. Shogtun - Good multi-purpose gun. Good at short and medium range for weak and medium-strenth monsters (through Hell Knight/Revenant)
4. Super Shotgun - Excellent for CQB (close-quarter battle). Useful for monsters of any strength.
5. Chaingun - Good for large amounts of weaker monsters, CQB, and sniping. Try quickly tapping the fire key to shoot two-round bursts, which are much more accurate than holding down fire.
6. Rocket launcher - Great for large amounts of weaker monsters or small amounts of big monsters. Good at medium range: short ranges will cause you to take splash damage, and at farther ranges you have to estimate the time the rocket will take to reach its target, and fire at where you think your enemy might be.
7. Plasma rifle - Useful at medium and long ranges for any monsters. Ammo is scarce, though.
8. BFG - Good for tough monsters or large hordes. There's no splash damage. Ammo is scarce for this one as well, since it uses the same type of ammo (cells) as the plasma rifle. Don't waste it. :)
9. Chainsaw - Awesome for certain monsters. Good against imps, cacodemons, Pain Elementals, pinkies, and spectres in close quarters. Beware, though, as other enemies may attack you from behind while you're sawing into a demon.

Okay, that's it for weapons. What else...hmm..

Use any kinds of pillars, trees, and doors for cover. With DR-type doors, it can be helpful to shut the door between you and some monsters, to give you time to switch weapons, find ammo/health, etc., before the enemies get through.

Sometimes it's helpful to get barrels out of your way while no enemies are around. A fireball or shotgun blast may accidentally hit one and severely damage you.

You don't have to kill all the monsters. If a safe area or exit is in sight and you can easily dodge all the monsters on your way there, go ahead. Don't waste your ammo!

Meh, I think that's it for now...I should write a FAQ or something. *l7*

And the gun-mounted flashlight mod is called Duct Tape. Last time I tried it, it wouldn't let me pick up any PDAs. Maybe that's been fixed. *shrug*

I found a different one that added different lights to each gun. Like the Machine Gun and Shotgun have a small flashlight, the Chaingun a hell-a-big Flashlight, and the Pistol has a Red Dot that tells you where the bullets will hit. Nifty, now I might be able to Headshot some zombers.

Back on Topic of the Original Doom Series though.

Thank you for the advice, I always do strafe anyways. I learned that from Counter-Strike. F**king wall hackers.
