What were your first thoughts when you saw hell?
Mine were: Wow, evil. Hope it won't be a repeat of Half-Life... Hey look! the portals are green! YAY!

I thought "oh ******* god! where are all my weapons? Am I supposed to survive in hell with 24 rounds of shotgun and 60 handgun rounds????, ahhh, *breathes deeply* man this is really scary and atmosphereic!"

I thought it looked pretty damned cool.

I hated losing my weapons. That was a Half-Life trick. Also there was no explanation why you lose your gear. Plus just before entering hell you can find a secret that takes a bit of work to get a bunch of gear... that ends up being a waste of time. If your material things didn't make it through the portal did you go to hell naked? Why was there weapons and stuff in hell then? I thought it was lame they took your stuff. Oh well, hell was pretty damned cool. :D

The loading screen for hell features the DooM 3 Icon of Sin. looked kinda crappy, but evil! What if you where naked, and the entire hell was a literal hall of mirrors? YAY! I did not even think about losing weapons being half-life... good point.
If you listen closely, apart from Bertruger's voice, you could hear whales!:D Or is it an old Opera?

I was impressed by what they've done to give it atmosphere. The ambient sound was really cool too. I remember wishing the level had more special fx though ( like the walls re-arranging themselves ). That was surreal. I remember in the game, Alice, there used to be such weird levels with floors moving and weird shit happening everywhere. Scary stuff. Haven't played ROE yet, you go to hell there?

You know whats the best thing about Hell? the fact that every sections brings more "surreal" stuff.

Hell still scares me, even though I saw most of the traps... The first time I saw Mancubus in Hell, I'm like "YAY! Finally another mancubus!" The first berserker skull you get is AWESOME!!

That's what's great about living in Michigan. When you ask someone when and they respond, "When Hell freezes over," all you have to do is wait for winter time to come and they have to comply! :D

Although chances of a city freezing over are prolly pretty low from now on due to the whole global warming thing. There was, like, almost no winter to be found in winter last year. Argh. :(

I thought the hell in Doom3 was just some awesomly awesome stuff. but yeah I think they shoulda went with the more original green splashy teleport effect and saved the rectum effect for hell lol..
A spiffy green teleporter would be a nice addition to a mod or something, has someone made that yet?

I'v been playing Doom3 again and actually at Delta Labs sector 2b and just made my first teleportation. I'm thinking its a rectum, but in editing, its a cam entity inside a big donut shaped model which rotates, with rectum textures rofl.

But anyways, neat effect, it shoulda been a green rectum...NEXT!!

The effects you see when you go through a teleport is a bit uneeded IMHO. I think you should see nothing considering your traveling so fast and all your particles are probably in a blob of energy or somesuch. It should be like the other Doom games where you step onto a teleport and appear on the other side in a split second. All the wormhole rectum stuff is just overdone.

Hmmm, I think using 'wormholes' instead of 'teleporters' in Doom 3 was more scientifically plausible, considering that people can get to the other side alive and in one piece. You can't do that with teleporters, you may be able to teleport the body but you can't teleport the soul with it since you're breaking the body down into energy. Besides, it's theoretically impossible to cover the distance from here to hell* in a few seconds as nothing we know could travel beyond the speed of light.
