To me, the statement "Dude, I OWN DOOM!" Could mean a plethora of things. And you needn't be so serious about it. ;)
I have Doom, Doom II, Final, Doom3+RoE, and PSX Ultimate Doom.

Doom (PC)
How could I not own it? Well actually I just own a WAD file and some source ports, but hey. It doesn't get so much attention now that I play the port included with Doom 3: Collector's Edition.
Doom 2 (PC)
Meh. I just have it. Don't really like it so much.
Doom 3: Collector's Edition (Xbox - I play it on 360)
Love it love it love it. I had the PC version but I just had too many issues running it and such inconsistent framerates. The Collector's edition contains ports of Doom 1 and 2 as well, which I enjoy, though for some reason all 4 chapters in Ultimate Doom have the same sky texture in this port (but not the port contained with RoE).
Doom Movie (DVD)
Love it. Had to own it.
Doom (PSX)
I love the atmosphere in this version. I don't even own a PlayStation anymore, but I kept this disc and run it on the emulator from time to time just for that atmosphere.
I don't bother with Final Doom, because I find it crappy. I like Doom 64 sometimes but it's only on N64 and I didn't think it was worth keeping the console for. I use the Doom 64 Absolution TC for PC if I want to play it.

The PSX version that simply is titled "Doom" (not Ultimate or somesuch) includes Ultimate Doom, Doom II, and a handful of new/replacement levels. Some levels were taken out or replaced due to, I would guess, the developmental tools available at the time and their limits; otherwise, nobody was understanding of the PSX's capabilities at the time.
Of course I couldn't confirm either of these things, but rather they are my guess at why they didn't add in levels that were so simplistic that they can run on a GBA perfectly fine (speaking of MAP15 of Doom II, and although they did split it up into two levels, the PSX version would more than likely have been able to run it as one I think). And why some movements in-game were choppier (like the doors opening).
PSX Doom included multiplayer as well, though at the time split-screen was not common at all on the PSX, and thus multiplayer gaming required two consoles, two copies of the game, two TVs, and a system link. Not quite convenient, I'd say. :p
But anyway. Final Doom was also released separately for PSX. It included both TNT and Plutonia. It, unlike its predecessor, did not have any multiplayer functionality.

Final Doom for PSX was composed of thirteen maps from the Master Level collection, twelve maps from TNT and five from Plutonia. It did have multiplayer (same as PSX Doom).
PSX Doom included maps from Doom and Doom II. There were a few other maps designed by Williams Entertainment specifically for this release.
Quite a few maps were cut because of lag, playability or disc-space issues. The Arch-Vile, for example, was cut because of this. The ambient lighting, new sound effects and ambient music tracks were the antagonists behind loss of maps. Williams Entertainent did a sub-par port-job, though I still tend to enjoy it because of the added atmosphere.

I own: PSX Doom, PSX Final Doom, Doom64, Doom CE (Ultimate Doom, Doom II and Final Doom for PC), The Master Levels (PC), Doom3 CE XBOX, Doom3 (PC), Doom3 RoE XBOX and Doom3 RoE (PC).

Fracking Amazon. They never get their facts straight then, do they. I'm never trusting them again... :p

For some reason, I can't see that lag happening on a PSX when you've got games coming out at the end of its life that are about 20x more demanding. Games that use those silly models and all. But playability and disc-space I could believe, especially seeing how far back it goes.
I don't deny lag happening, I just don't see how. But you prolly know more on the matter than I do.

I do not think PSX Doom does suffer from lag. I think had Willaims Entertainment left all of the monsters in however, especially in two-player co-op, it would have. I remember reading something about this being the reason the Arch-Vile was cut; he has too many frames of animation (with the hit-scan fire) and was slowing the game down. This is also the reason why the Revenants were slowed down to half of their PC speed.
Disc space was a big problem. SNES Doom and the XBOX Doom ports are fine because they use the original PC versions of the games (complete with midi). The Playstation version of Doom however had over an hour worth of new sounds. It seems Williams Entertainment wanted the music and sound effects however, because they cut monsters, textures and maps to fit it in.

Nah, the PSX Doom doesn't even break 300MB. Just didn't have memory to fit it all. Doom requires 4MB while the PSX only has 2MB.

That is a possibility, though it would not explain why Williams chose to cut an abundance of textures or maps. Then again, who am I to judge so much? It would seem I am not completely informed on the matter either.

I guess I will never own doom 'cause I will never ever have a playstation.
I hate playstation, most games on it are not my style, but that is completely personal opinion.
Doom 1 (Ultimate) - Doom 2, yes I a own them and i'm happy about it. I got Master Level too, Final Doom (love it MUCH MORE than Doom 2 itself), I got Doom 3 on PC, I wanted ROE but it seems heavier to run so I won't buy it yet. Doom 3 is awesome btw!
Doom 64, I do not own Doom 64 but I got its PC version - Absolution (so I didn't voted I had the game because Absolution is free) but this game is just - awesome. It is a MUST to download.
The movie is one of my favorite movies - but I don't buy movie, it ends being a waste of money.
I guess I like doom...*turvy*

If you can run Doom3, you can run RoE. The system requirements are the same.
Assassin
June 24th, 2006, 01:42 PM
Yes, they are the same, but, if Doom 3 hogs up all of your memory(it is a big game) then you'll have to uninstall some games.

I own almost all Doom games (apart from the RPG, and the 64 (you may as well count in the final doom for the PS) I am searching for that 64 port!) So only one off the list really! That is soon going to change!
