I have everything tagged right, and the monsters teleport in, but they keep telefragging themselves. Isnt the game supposed to keep that from happening? IS this a bug?

If monsters are teleporting onto other monsters, then yes, the teleporting monsters will telefrag any living thing in the way. I'm not sure if this is a bug, but rather I consider it a precaution, as if one thing were to teleport on to another without telefragging it, both things would become stuck on each other, unable to move. Players are able to do this to monsters as well, and vice versa, and it's been taken advantage of in several wads. Considering that no port has (AFAICT) fixed this I'd say it was an intentional precaution.

But I digress. If they are literally telefragging themselves, i.e. they teleport and die immediately for no apparent reason, I've got no clue. I've never even heard of such a case, so I'm probably not one to help. But in the case of the first point, the simple solution is to have the telefragging monsters teleport to destinations that are separate, and to make sure that monsters that have teleported already are not in the way of monsters that have yet to teleport, seeing as they could go over a teleport destination as a monster was teleporting.

Otherwise, it'd be helpful to upload your wad somewhere (like Rapidshare (http://rapidshare.de)) for a better look. Or if you'd rather not have the work you have done posted, recreate the situation in an example wad and upload that.

Why do I make such long-winded posts...? :p

Is the map using a source-port such as ZDoom, JDoom or Legacy or is the map for vanilla Doom?

Under normal circumstances, MAP30 is the only map that allows monster telefragging. I would suggest saving the map as MAP29 to see if this fixes the problem. If the map must absolutely be MAP30, attempt to re-organize the dummy sectors so that the enemies do not flood the teleport line-def, or if using scripts, place delays in-between the prompt to teleport.

I have never seen a monster teleporting on top of another monster and thus causing them to become stuck. I thought the teleporting monster would simply void his teleport attempt if there was another monster standing at the destination point.

HOLY CRAP!!!

Im kicking myself so hard now. I spent hours studying map 16 in doom 2 (i used the same teleporting ambush method) and adjusting my map, adjusting the enemies, fixing vertexs, etc. Yes, i had the map as level 30. I dont even know why. I set it to level 31 (i love the music for Pharoah and the red sky) and the problem was fixed. Thanks man.

The level is based on my highschool and is meant for my friend only, but MAYBE ill post it here. Since its based on my highschool, it doesnt really lend itself to innovative architecture since i want to follow the architecture of the school. Its also just standard doom, no source ports. I hate them. Im like a purist or something.

I had no idea doom still had a mapping community. Thank god for you guys.

*edit: Ill post it when im done

I say go ahead and post it anyways. We don't get enough realistic maps these days.

Speaking of which, there's actually a contest going for realistic maps right now... the more entries the better. ;)

I would enter the realistic map but my map theme isnt realistic after the first 2/3's of the map.

The story is that my highschool was turned into a military/UAC base after hells invasion of earth, but it was overran by hell, some crazy stuff happened, and you have to go re-claim the base from hell after most of hell was driven from earth. Then you find out later in the level that a section of hell itself is under the school (i wouldnt be surprised if this was true in real life).

That doesn't matter. ;)

I recommend you having a go with it. It's not like were going to mock you if you don't come in first.
