Greetings, i am new to the forum (but i would have joined months ago if i'd seen the ''forums'' link), i see there are many categories related to Doom, but now i'll continue.
Since i see many Doom Fan-Made-Games, + much fun playing Doom, Doom 2, Final Doom, etc. I've decided to try and make my own, but not a first-person sight one, but a side-sight (Ex: Doom 2d Game), i think the characters might be a surprise, or maybe not due to the many Doom Fan-Made-Games that i still don't know. I'm already creating/editing sprites and the rest.
But i have One problem, i do not seem to posess any fit-in side-sight Doom Backgrounds (i only need floors, walls, and pillars), so if any of you could help me get one, and if possible, you could give me also the source file of it, so i can make the rest without bothering you again, please do not bother too much, if none of you can't find one, i'll try do one with flash then, as i think it'd look better with an already made one *owell* .
Thanks if you try at least, i appreciate it.
Off topic: I seriously need to get to 60 posts (of course without spam), i don't like having Keen in my avatar.

I personally don't see what would be wrong with using ones from Doom(2) itself, assuming that this would either be a mod for a source port such as Legacy or ZDoom or a program that checks for an IWAD (for legal reasons). All you need to extract them is XWE (http://www.doomworld.com/xwe/). Just open up the IWAD (Doom.wad, Doom2.wad, the wad that comes with shareware doom, etc), then save the PATCHes and FLOORs as bitmaps and you're good to go.
As for the avatar, you can easily disable it in the meantime from your profile, just look for the avatar options. Also, whilst it's off the topic:
THANK YOU.
You seem to be one of the few, few newcomers in a long time to read the rules first. Congratulations on having common sense. :D

Well, to tell you, i haven't read them, better go read them now, but i was sure polite is appreciated. Also i have been in many forums before (with the long time maturity and leadership i had to do to finally become an admin on almost all of them).
Now on topic.
I tried that before, but i was sooo obssesed with the idea of creating a new Doom game that i thought it would be better if i used Doom Builder (i won't use it for creating this one). The problem is that, you know that you must come really close to an object/monster to get the 3d-like image, BUT, as my pc runs Doom 2 with normal speed while skipping 7 frames, this causes the image to uncontrollably move up and down very fast, unallowing me to take the image.
The other thing is that if i increase just ONE SINGLE frame skip, the game becomes really slow `the quality get's low, even if it is at the 'high'' mode in the options menu, so even worst at the ''low'' mode.
And the final thing is that i have the IWAD on the other Pc, that is from my bro's, and as he put a password, and now that he is in another city for about 5 and a half months, i won't be able to get it, the only way is getting through the internet, but i can't find them anywhere, that's why i am making this topic, any help?
Off topic: ARGH!, this thing makes my signature so small!

I'm tried to make 2D Doom game before not on a doom platform but the project got stalled.
you know that you must come really close to an object/monster to get the 3d-like image, BUT, as my pc runs Doom 2 with normal speed while skipping 7 frames, this causes the image to uncontrollably move up and down very fast, unallowing me to take the image.
??????? What do you mean by 3D like image? the 8 directional images? And why can't you just use XWE, Dragon Unpcker of GFE to rip the sprites directly from thew WAD file?
Why your Doom runs so slow??? You've got 286 or 386? I hope you're not taking about DOSBOX - you can run doom in any port (Doomsday, Zdoom, Legacy........)
You need a lot to read here and get updated....
Can't you call you brother and ask for the password?
Noone here will help you to illigally download IWADs from the internet, though it's most easy using pretty famous programs that allow such thing

There is actually a 2D Doom scrolling platformer. (Doom 2D)

I know, but the original project (made by russians) sucked, same type projects (at least 2-3 that I know of) exist on Game Maker (can send it to anyone) but still I think it's not the quality you wanna play for over a few days.

I'm not trying to say that i want another IWAD, just some accurate pictures of pillars, torches, floors and roofs.
And what i wanted to mean, is that if i am in the game, and if i'm too far away from, let's say a Cacodemon, it would look blurry, small, and it wouldn't look Doom's 3d-like image. My pc doesn't have anything wrong, but i once had Doom 2 in a perfect motion, and things didn't move up and down, but then i saw my bro trying to add some files to it, he then plays, and there's where it all started.
No, it isn't the 8 directional images, but only 1, i only meant to someone to just get me a 1 directional pillar(s),wall(s),floor(s) and roof (inside and in the top of the room).
And sorry for the XWE, i wasn't able to read when you said so, i think i skipped a line.
Well, my brother just told my mom to let me use his Pc, only for getting all the things i need. Thanks anyway.

We don't seem to understand each other.
1. you can "rip" images directly from the IWAD without entering the game with programs I've mentioned. For my 2D doom project I ripped all the sprites I needed.
You don't need printscreens for that.
you can play my cDoom project to see what I mean (can send it to you over messenger). It was a splitscreen project for 2 players, I think in 2D splitscreen is most cool. you should consider
pics from cDoom:
http://www.geocities.com/maxgenis/cdoom/cdoom040.jpg
http://www.geocities.com/maxgenis/cdoom/cdoom0400.jpg
you can download the famous of the Doom2D projects here:
http://2players.cvalka.net/arc/_death/doom2d.rar
images from other 2D doom projects:
http://www.gmshowcase.dk/games_archive/screenshots/2DOOM1.gif
http://gh.gameslife.ru/games/scr/doom2d_2.gif
it included 7 directional aiming + 5 directional aiming while ducking + 2 directional floor shooting + defence and many other cool features. I can let you use the sprites with permission.
2. about frame rate - how do you play Doom? with ports like I mentioned, just the "basic" Doom, or from DOSbox DOS emulator? Doom was runnning well even on 386 old computers, I can't get why you have a framerate problems on computer that is less than 10 years ld.

1. I know that, i just didn't know who was 2D DooM author, and talking about cDooM, i can't download it, the link takes me to a money publicity page, but i think if i copy the link's URL it's properties (right-click). The thing is, that i wasn't sure if the pics were going to be as good as others, so i tried to search, if i failed, i'd take them, or making them in flash.
2.In Zsnes, but hey, i finally downloaded Doom 2 (not using Zsnes).

Indeed cDoom download is buggy, that's why I said I can sent it to you via MSN or some other messenger.
The point is that those sprites are the same in every game, constant. limitation of screen resolution and distance from the object ruin it's appearance, but the base sprite that Doom game uses are the same, at least for PC games. So there is only 1 version of Doom sprite images, and those you can use. Rip them directly from IWAd.
Zsnes?? Heh, played that one I think, but why do you play the Zsnes version? Get the real thing! (the PC version) :) Zsnes version is slow and buggy.
You can play it in many ports like Zdoom and such.
http://www.zdoom.org/about.html
http://legacy.newdoom.com/
http://www.doomsdayhq.com/
..there are many others, like GZdoom and such...
...and sorry for the misplacement of a paragraph - "it included 7 directional aiming + 5 directional aiming while ducking + 2 directional floor shooting + defence and many other cool features. I can let you use the sprites with permission."
I meant cDoom.
Hei, maybe instead of making a new game, you can continue the cDoom project (take over it), though the code is messy (despite it having almost no bugs) and you'll have to major reorganize it. cDoom includes teleporters, sidetracks, vertical and diagonal jumping pads, elevators, holodooms and holoshilds, powerups, water, game modes like domination, CTF....

I sent you a PM, Linkred. Get back to me when you get a chance.

Yes i read the message, i just forward-pmed you.
As for you Jedi, im not sure if i will be able to reorganize and update the game, as im not good for making game-modes, I'll first finish my game, then yours so that i'm totally sure of what to do.
And about the Zsnes, i use it to play all of my SNES games.
And yes i would like to recieve cDooM, my MSN is augu2004@hotmail.com
augu because people in RL call me like that, but don't call me like that here, just call me Link.
2004 you know why.

No, don't understand me wrong, I like Zsnes and played it alot in the past...
But you do know that Doom is a PC game by it's origin and that Zsnes version of it lacks almost everything, from resolution to framerate etc.......
Get the PC version and play it :)
Well, we'll figure it out now, as I have your messenger.

Ooo, wait, i finally downloaded it, what's the green soul sphere for?
doomjedi
May 30th, 2006, 10:33 PM
Press F1 while in game for all the instructions and game keys....
The green sphere usually refers to the green player, but in every game mode it refers to something else. in Domination mode it means the sport it dominated by the Green player. In Overload mode it's the base he needs to protect. in CTF it's the "flag" or "the glag is caprured by the green player........
...well, do you like it?
So where do you program your game exactly? by modifiying the Doom engine? C++? Game Maker? other?

He probably means the green sphere with red eyes, the Invulenrability artifact; makes you immortal for a short time. He never said he was playing Skulltag...

No, Illdo, you don't get what I'm discussing with Linkred. We are not talking about skulltag, but about my cDoom (Contra-style Doom) project where this green sphere appears (recolored blue sphere from Doom as there are 2 players - green and red)

Jedi is right Illdo, there is some green soul spheres in the game, btw how do you change modes in the game?, Also, if i press the 3 soul spheres or if i die, we will go to another level, but this seems like has no exit, oh, and i discovered that you can take the armor from the corpses that are hold by a chain/black rope in the mid roofs!
I am using Game Maker, the design will be somehow like Doom:BFM, but not that ''age of empires/mithology'' like, but with the same properties in side-sight gameplay. Ooo and i already added a game description, and to finally tell you, is a game based on Super Mario Brothers' characters, with the M&LSSS-like sprites made by (a guy that i forgot his name, but that i will list on the credits, as it is on the sprites' image i saved on my pc).

Did you read the F1 instructions? :) doesn't seem so... :)
(every mode is assigned to a level so by choosing levels (numbers 0-9 +"i" as written in F1 help) you choose levels. there is despriprion for every game mode in F1 instructions. And you don't die by pressing spheres, it's domination mode, when you dominate a spot for more than "x" seconds you win and go to the next level. doesn matter if you "pressed" one or 3 of them.
And the mode for the secong level is Deathmatch, the only mode that is basically endless (can easy add frag limit to it) as it's the only mode that is based on frags. in other modes frags don't count, just slow the enemy by returning him to his base.
About the armor from the corpses - yep, my idea, cool, isn't it? :)
Do you know all the buttons, how to use holodoom and such? there are many trciks you can learn from F1 help. Can you host cDoom somewhere?
cDoom is make in Game Maker 5.3 so if you laready know game maker, why won't you just develop it further? :)
...some more tips - if you duck in water it protects you from enemy shots.....
Anyway, good luck with your project! :D
