I made one of these threads after 2 months, and with 4 months approaching I thouhgt I would make another. This is by no means telling you that you map needs to be finished. I just want to make sure everyone is actually making some progress.
*So everyone just post up a percentage telling how far you are on your map.
*If you're map name is incorrect or missing, make a post letting me know.

I'm probably going to quote Fatal regarding my map. I haven't been able to arse myself, what with that stupid life and all, to figure out what the feck is wrong with it. I'll have more time to do that in summer, plus right now in the mean-time I'm working on Dementia (damnit WIP admins, upload it already! :p).
But hey, since the last update it's been upped by 10%. So call it 55% done. Still don't have a name for it though, sadly.

Still haven't decided on a name. However I did pretty much complete the dm section.
I have spent alot of time on some of the neatest doom textures i have ever shat out my ear. blarg.
the core single player/co op map is about 30% finished, aside from monster placement.
If you are playing in software, your going to be playing in a dark scary atmosphere, if you play in gl, everything is sleek and sexy.
(I joined the mappers late in the game)

Mine is still around 80% maybe 85% heh I'v added a little.
PS, You saw the map awhile back. It was basically finished then, other than the yellow key "switch" room and the exit areas. Yes details yet to do/finish. ;)
EDIT: Oh yes the outside areas have been updated a bit aswell, little mountain side instead of just big temp sectors. and a little bit of changes done to the skin area heh.

Thing is, even the Ayleids haven't inspired me and I love thier ruins. Usually that is something that gets me interested in mapping. Maybe I need to drink more of Alio's beer.

Believe it or not, I get a shiteload of inspiration on architecture from real-world buildings and stuffs in movies. And I get my wierd "land a ship on some planet and then end the map with you escaping on it" fetish (not that kind of fetish, you sick, sick bastard :p) from Metroid. I mean it's in my SEEKRIT project, Dementia, and it was even sort-of in Paranormal...

All I can say is Don't let other things keep you from doing what your initial plan was.
And Do take in consideration of who or what my not inspire you, and push it away, it doesn't belong there. - it must not have been there when you were inspired before.. :)
I actually get something done when something isn't keeping me from getting something done, but that something is actually getting something else done arg.. ;)
Although, It also depends on the mood and what might inspire you at the time, as well as what might be taking up more time,this isn't even about real life time yet heh.. However, that wont kill your inspiration thats part of your creativity. right?
I think its something we all go through occasionally, and we all suffer a little, but one night you sit down, usually when nothings bothering you, you open the sketch pad or editor and BAM, bustin something out like theres no tomorrow..
It's really hard to say DD, I think you should make map or be teh head chopped off.
Wasn't that in the contract PS? if you quit you get executed accordingly?
or was that just a console command..
hmm new monster, head chopped off guy. DD as sprite model.

even if i find the music i want for the wad, i find that changing it occasionally, for when i am testing the map, makes the whole mapping process seem less boring, it just seems to change anything stagnant regarding my mood and doom.
I also like to flip records when mapping, just to keep my mind in a creative state.

D-d-d-double post!!!!.
Okay, I made something very stupid: fired up Doom Builder, got me on fire and created a new DM section for my map in a hour and half or something like that. Of course it sucks but it´s the kind of map everyone can play: small and with a limited weapon selection, simmetric, basic layout... I started a DM in Legacy with 6 bots and in less than five minutes there were more than 200 corpses in the main area!!!. I don´t know, I think this is one of these "Madness!!!" maps where you get a lot of frags with a lot of people... Seems appropriate for 3 or 2 players though and, now that I think of it, its layout is pretty similar to this other Skulltag map (the one with the minigun, the shell launcher and the railgun, you know, a central area and then a passage wrapped around it) but personally I don´t care :). Anyway, they say than an Image is worth a thousand words so here it is:

Anyway, I´ll try to test the SP portion tomorrow (I had to delete little things so this thing could run) and if everything is still working I´ll give my map to PS for everyone to play if they wish to :).

well, didn't mean to annoy you, i just was wondering what the structure was shaped like so I can create a believable continuity. Pumpkin Smasher was encouraging that, i thought it was a fun idea. so much for that i guess.

Well I decided on the name "The Marble Fortress" for my map. I'm conceiving a Hell plain thanks to some nice black rock textures. The map's main feature will be a weird marble structure somewhere central. I will be making a nice exit portal once I find a good vortex effect to use. ANIMATED is permitted right?

Note I'm putting my map 19 on hold for a little while. (maybe a month or two) I discoverd a virus on my system (it's been taken care of) but it effected a lot of my operating systems. Any programs and such I try and work in now will close randomly with no promoting (even is SAFE MOAD!).. Yes even BoomBuilder; and it's keeping me from working on my map.
I'm going to have to format my HD. (and to get rid of some spywhere that refuses to remain deleted x.x) But the prob with that is I lost the key code to my Win2k. So I have to wait until after I move in with my sis (for schooling in web design) and use their copy.
So until then.. ! x.x *beats her comp with a crowbar*

My map is now finally being worked on again, and it's jumped an amazing FIFTEEN PERCENT!! Liek ohmguh.
In other words, progress is now up to 70%. All that's left is to make the cavernous area (which now I am thinking will double as a separate DM area, as long as I keep it open enough) and add that silly gameplay stuff, and my map shall be D-U-N-N, done.
Still can't think of a name for it, though...

Anyways, Yeh, next time ill use a zip. I just hate the password because whenever I go to open something I ither miss a letter or use capital letters or something its annoying lol, besides it dosent have the resource so.... I think that part of it is not compromised.

Alright the first post should be up to date. I've noticed a few people haven't been arond here for a few months, not sure if we should consider them dead yet, but i guess we could start handing out back-up maps incase they are. Here's a list of those who have disappeared and when they last posted at ND:

Not all of those were noobs, but some of them were. And it is a community porject, so it can be expected. By the way, Greivous, I still haven't recieved any percentages from you about your progress.

Do you really need a percentage? In all truth, with the way I go about mapping, its hard to give one. I don't really make any specific goal for the size of my maps, the only details I really bother to outline are the theme and ideas I have for certain areas. In other words: I map until I run out of ideas or feel the map has reached a point where it needs to end.
But if you're pretty gung-ho (sp) on getting some sort of completion rate out of me, I'll hazard a guess and say that Map 13 (which I've re-named Straniero Complex) is about 30% done. Map 23: Keep of the Unforgiven is 0% done, as I lost the map in a hard drive crash a long while back :( I still have every intention of doing that map, though.

sorry, that I didn't send you an email. I am still in this project. the -new- map is done to 70% (maybe a bit less, no name yet). you can delete my screenies on the ndcp2 web-side. I will send new screenies soon/today (textures later).
unfortunately I have not much time the next 5 months but I will get my map done until the end of the year.
btw, I also don't want to wait 3 years (and sure I don't will). if there are not 32 maps in this wad and maybe 20, that would be fine too. the maps I have already seen are really great.

Do you really need a percentage? In all truth, with the way I go about mapping, its hard to give one. The percentage thing is just a rough estimate and gives the maintainer / leader a better idea of how things are going.
I'm at 15%. I'll be doing some work on mine agin now that I'm back into mapping. *alien*

As DD said, the % is nothing to spend time thinking over, i'd just like it to go up every once in a while to show me that progress is being made. It's not so much you Greivous that i need this from, as you are providing many screenshots, but for some people who don't post here as frequently, it's nice to have.

Hey i'm still working onmy level its about 50% done its ot real big and only has a few custom textures pertaining only to my level but it should be done when i get some time, as far as a specific date i can set some extra time to finish it if need be, i had to reinstall windows and that has been a bitch to get things back and running, but hey i wil get it done

You can start making a map dutch, I'm sure something will open up. If we are near the end of the project,and there are mappers we haven't heard from, then your map can replace theirs.

You need the ndcp2 recource wad to play it just open the map in db and load in the textures aswell thats how I did it.
I used Gzdoom to play it.

Actually no, I think that it could be something else, because I think there may be a problem with one of the lumps in my wad, though I dont remember adding any textures.
Anyways, Also along with that, The window that you cannot shoot through is not finished for OPENGL and right now has NO texture on the bottom, so it may be that. Im pritty shure that to fix that we need to have a transparent flat? or is it done differently? I was leaving that to last because its just something not high on my to-do list.*smirk*

Prboom and Legacy seem to have problems with external texture resources (secondary resource wad) until they are merged or sometimes ran from within db editing. Other ports like zdoom or gzdoom will run it but just wont display the texture unless loaded from within db that way or ran like eg. -file resource.wad -file mywad.wad.

Just wanted you to know that I'm still here (didn't want you to think I was dead and lose my spot :P). Right now the map is still 0%, but I'll be starting it within the next two weeks.
Oh and, heh, in the credits, map listings etc, I'd like to go by just "Tango". I wanted to register under that name, but it was already taken, so I had to think of something fast...

I've had plenty going on lately. However, I'm still in. Note that my map is now called "Labyrinth of Doom" and it'll be home to some fiendishly nasty mazes as a labryrinth should be. Some of the ideas:
- Ones with walk-through walls.
- Ones with invisible walls.
- One that "morphs" into another on the way out.
Many will have hidden lines so the automap fails. Several will be more difficult on UV when I add some extra things as barricades. And of course, the "minotaur" will be a Cyber.
Currently about 10% done.

Just leting everyone know I am semi back after a virus ate up most of my exe files. Comp's been formatted... I know it took forever. Now I have to also virus scan all my back up files.. and THAT will take forever. I have to do it on a laptop that is the only thing that has an up to date virus scanner.. But I only have aces to it at night after like.. 10pm.. So I'm stuck saning like one dvd a night, less if the owner (Mike) can't sleep and wants it back ¬.¬ So.. this.. will take a while.. the dvd with all my DooM stuff also needs to be scanned..
....stupid virus...stupid norton for not picking it up... I'm still on the project! I just.. need to wait till I can scan the dvd and be sure it's clean.. and seeing how it takes two or so hous to scan one dvd.... and I get the laptop at 10pm, I can only do one a night.. less (as in.. stopping the scan) if Mike wants the laptop back..
So...yeah... @.@

I finally got to the point where I couldn't trust a hdd and started raring up my maps and burning them to cd, just in case. and damn I'm glad I did.
Lol I'v told PS that my map is like 80% and 90% and 80% and now 90%, arg if I'd stop adding things while detailing..
Well for now just keep the percentage as-is until I send it to ya rofl..

Well, not exactly XD. Though Rockets sorta right as well to do with item placement. The map is being made but there's only 4 badguys and 3 items.

I know not one person would be interested in this, but you could substitute a level or more for a cutscene. If anyone was interested in a story and/or to make it look more complete....I know its a waste of a level, but I would know how to do it in all boom ports.

so, its a free standing gateway. its in the closed position in this screenshot. You could prolly do a simple copy and paste type deal....or, if you would only need the closed position, i could simplify it( the insides of this sector that is). I plan on making it prettier. The thing is, i would need to know what the start area of your map looks like for the gate on my end, as a trigger opens the gate revealing a transclucent field, and a distorted image of your start area.

After a prolonged break from mapping, I made a small amount of progress today. Monday is a Bank Holiday here, so I should be able to spend a large chunk of the day working on it then.

(I have mapped past the map I uploaded for you, if you haven't downloaded that, I will re-upload. I'm still replaceing some of the crap textures of mine in the original resource, I'm sure we can take out some of the ones not used later, the status bar "numbers" were thrown in from "atmosphere.wad" because the really nice set I just made for ndcp looks all wonky in prboom.)
EDIT: The newer upload should read sept 02 build in the readme.
Anyone wanna playtest what I have so far? Its playable to a certain point.
