Well I signed up since the first was already into its fourth year when I joined here. ;)

Getting into the groove is never a problem for me. The problem for me is keeping that groove all the way through. I'm only about 60% done on the structure on my map and the ideas are running dry. I can't imagine how I plan on making a TNT-sized level...

You probably wouldn't want to try signing up for mapping anyway at the moment, seeing as all the slots are filled. :p

We could make a waiting list in case someone wants to drop a map, you could get signed up for that slot.

There's an idea! Have people sign up for back-up positions, and they can work on their map when they feel the need to and if anyone drops, the map they were working on replaces the empty slot. And any back-up maps that don't go in could be put in that "extra" additional wad that contains some unreleased maps for the project that (I think?) was being discussed at some point...

I think that would be a good idea anyway, seeing as if they just sign up to fill any slots that are dropped and don't possibly do something in the meantime, then when someone drops out last-minute the project will take all the longer.

Im thinking about dropping mine if Xtife wants it he can have it, no guys its not an joke.

Xtife
March 6th, 2006, 02:38 PM
seriously dutch? your maps are so awesome :D

if i were to decide to take that slot, how long do i have to do this thing? i dont really feel confident that i will be able to do anything at all :)
i need to have a big brainstorm, and possibly look at a few good maps for some inspiration

Yes im serious im not getting any good ideas for this map and im short on time to make this map nice and big.
Besides I allready made one map for this project so im happy with just one map.

We don't have any time constraints so far. Just don't take longer than everybody else.

Xtife
March 6th, 2006, 06:56 PM
you sure you want to do that :) seeing as people took up to 3 years last time

Honestly people, there's nothing wrong with small maps. If you run out of ideas, then it's a sign to start thinking about where to put the exit.

Alright well if Dutch is serious about giving his spot away, xtife(sparky) can have his slot, otherwise xtife can give you fist dibs on map06 which just became available. Please respond soon if you can.

He can have mine im dropping it sorry peeps lack of time and ideas.

[edit] I could't finish this map for slot06 it will be an small map then, but for map29 I don't have any time.
So if Hans/Xtife wants to do slot29 it would be nice.

Or we could call it the expansion pack. "Includes X new maps with new music, textures and sky!! Almost like new!" :p

Good luck on yer map Sparky.

Alright Xtife has map29...and Dutch has map06?

Xtife
March 7th, 2006, 04:32 PM
seeing as this is map 29
so what kind of difficulty will this be? theme? size?
does it need to be started with a pistol?

Dutch Devil
March 7th, 2006, 04:33 PM
Um yeah if you agree on this then ill take map06...but Hans asked for this slot ealier than me.
So im not sure if I have the right to claim that slot, I want to stay honest :)

PumpkinSmasher
March 7th, 2006, 04:45 PM
well xtife had first dibs, and you are just switching slots, hans will take the next available slot if one appears.

to sparky: I would like all maps to be able to be completed from pistol start. Though this should be relatively difficult since it is map29. It can be any size you want, though map29 is traditionally a large map.

i have a resource wad of my own that i was going to use, is that ok?

PumpkinSmasher
March 7th, 2006, 06:56 PM
thats fine...
i'll send you the PM with the resource wad we have compiled so far and the password, just incase you decide to use some of them.

Just realized Dutchy had map28 not map29. Though that shouldn't make much of a difference. If it bothers you a lot, i'm sure you could ask Nuxius to switch.

no way :) its all good

so ya, im planning on making a hellish/gothic map with these textures i have here
im a pretty slow mapper, so i hope im able to finish this in time :)

i will post screenshots when i have mapped out the first few parts of the map

Xtife
March 7th, 2006, 10:56 PM
i see i have to name my new textures, like XT_xxxxx
please tell me i wont have to go around my whole map after and retexture everything once i merge them with the resource :(

btw, i just finished the first area of my map :D detail takes so much time

I still don't understand why maps should be large by standard. As I said, it should be that once you run out of ideas, then it's time to stop mapping and create the exit. It keeps the author and the player happy. Author doesn't have to make something bad out of nothing, and the player has more fun playing only good stuff.

Xtife
March 8th, 2006, 08:02 AM
my map will probably only be medium in size, anything larger then that is just overkill imo
ands like i said :) im a slow mapper, i havent made much yet. it took my 6-8 hours just to make the first part lol

PumpkinSmasher

Its not about size...its about quality.

FATAL
March 8th, 2006, 12:40 PM
But 90% of people link size to quality.

Xtife
March 8th, 2006, 01:09 PM
lol 90%? not that big maps arnt great, its the gameplay and difficulty that make a smaller map seem bigger :)

has anyone played simplicity? some of those maps are small
but very well made :)

In my opinion, it's not about size, it's about length, as in, how long you actually stay in the map. If I wanted to I could make a map for ZDoom that is 1024x1024 and could easily make it last half an hour (erm, with all 6 keys used and some switch hunting, of course). I think shooting for about 8-15 minutes of gameplay is good. My map for this is about medium-sized and should take about 13 minutes to beat.

I'm also working on a relatively small map however, for a challenge at ZDoom, in which everyone uses the same base and then details and maps it in their own style. It's a pretty small base mind you, but I plan on getting a good 6 minutes out of it.

Although maps that take too long can be really aggravating.

Hey cool idea I had some similar idea too make an map and leave out all detail, and let others make their own version of it.
Its good to see what others can do with the map you made, I really like this idea Ace :)

Whoops sorry PS I thought I had map29 all this numbers I keep mixing them up over here.

I hate enourmous maps! Maps should have a descent size and be fun. Simple as that.
