okay i try to join a game by going to the status page (legacy.newdoom.com/dlms_status.php) and copy and pasting their ip and port into the legacy launcher... if they are using a different was it tells me so... but if i am using the right wad it just sits there forever saying:
resolved 453.43453.32.423.233. (made up an ip *rolleyes* )
press esc to abort
contaction server
i am on a windows xp box

Read faqs and stuff... Check your firewall or router. Then read any FAQ again.

Yep, it could be your firewall, or you have to open ports for your router. Or maybe the server is down when you are trying to connect.

Well sometimes i see the servers it says they are using doom2.wad (which i have)
but it is not the one i was using
so i went to the launcher and told it to use doom2.wad and i went in and tried the same server but it just sat there after it resolved it.
same when i go to the dlms_status.php thing, i copy and paste the server's ip (With port) and paste it into the doom legacy launcher and it just sits there again
(even happens when i dont paste the port)
but i can play other online games like halo or doom 3 (which runs at 5 fps :))

Hmmm i'm no expert on the Legacy Engine but their are some wierd stuff on online games. I hosted a game on my 56kps modem and anybody who connected had very little Latency. But with some DSL (ADSL in AUS) it seems to have problems when Creating Games no one can join but that could be a router or firewall problem seems to be the common problem for many Online games (other games). Try, Open Legacy Go to Console and go "Connect 203.164.16.34 Example*" and it wont hang but it will Let you play or Just come back with a Message Saying that the server does not exist or "SOCK:Unkown" Problem.
I see this alot and it prevents people from playing. People host a Game then The Host server Quits but it says that there is still a game host if u List it Ingame it will Exit out of Legacy and Report saying "SOCK: Unkown" or something like that.
Its been a while since ive played Doom. I might start playing it again later after i create my self another skin.

Yes, I have problems hosting ANY online game.
Doom3 Halo, Halo CE, Trial, blah, blah.
I can solve the problem by plugging my computer's LAN right into the back of the DSL modem to fix it.
But my dad thinks it will blow up or something, i don't know.
So I can't do that.
Doom Legacy is the only game that I can't even join games on though.
I saw something about letting a port through on the windows firewall, and I tried that with no luck.
Damn, if I could just forward those ports in the router settings, but my dad, again, says that people could steal our information *whatever*
I wonder if there are any other ways to do this, hmmmm...

My LAN is plugged into the modem, just gotta make sure firewalls are up on all machines.
