What are the "pro" doom configurations? For example, on competn, on The Factory UVmax(lv12-412.lmp), near the beginning, the player is strafe-running and simultaneously turns around to shoot an arachnotron. wah? I can't do this haha. In general, the gameplay on competn demos seem 'different' than mine (basically WASD + max sensitive mouse)..What kind of config is "the best", or the most effecient? *bug*

Most of the compet-n players use mouse+keyboard, with the mouse used for turning. On the keyboard, WASD (or similar) is used for forward/backward movement and strafing from side to side.

Thus, turning while straferunning is achieved by turning with the mouse while pressing the move forward and strafe left (or right) keys.

Simple .....

W - forward
S - backwards
A - stafe left
D - strate right
LMB - shoot
RMB - run
space - activate

Kaizen: How do you get strafe-50 with that set-up?

My set-up is:
WASD for movement (A and D are strafe left/right)
Ctrl = turn left (for S50 only)
Alt = turn right (for S50 only)
(Windows key disabled :) )
Space = use
LMB = fire
RMB = strafe on (for S50 only)
standard 1-7 keys for weapon selection
autorun (either via the port options or, for Doom2.exe, joyb_speed 29 in the cfg)
My horizontal mouse sensitivity is 50, and vertical is zero (for Doom2.exe I use the TSR program novert).

[Ctrl and Alt for turning is a bit odd, but my keyboard seemed to prefer that; trying to press four regular keys at once didn't work too well.]

You can customize your own cfg either via the menus in your port of choice, or for Doom2.exe, by running setup.exe. There are certain things that you can't set in that way, in which case you'll need to edit the cfg by hand in, e.g., Notepad.

As for how to get good results with such a set-up, I'd say the main thing is to get into the habit of *always* straferunning, and practising enough so that your movement becomes fluent.

Hmmmm.... stafe-50? How do you perform that?

It's where you do all of the following simultaneously:
run (forward or backward)
press the strafe left (or right) key
press strafe on
press the turn left (or right) key

This means that you're using both normal ways to get a strafing movement at the same time. Your sideways movement speed is then a little greater (50 units rather than 40 - thus the name). You can't turn while using strafe-50, because your turning function is being interpreted by the engine as a strafing movement.
