Well it's time to start up Map Sign-ups. It's first come first serve. Some of you think its too soon, but if this takes half-as long as the last one, that would put us well into 2007 before this gets released. Once this gets started I would like to set a date where I would want to see some work done, I don't want you to sign-up and not work on anything for 6 months. I would also like an e-mail address which we can contact you at if you are away from the boards for a long period of time, you can PM this to me if you would like to keep it off of the boards.

Lets see if we can finish this one quicker than the first one.

Mapping Rules:

All maps must be Boom-Compatible for Doom 2, Singleplayer with COOP and DM starts. If you would like to add a DM only section to your map, it would be great, but not required at all. You can use all the Boom features you want, including Voodoo Dolls.
No new sprites or sounds (unless we agree to replace SS Nazi and/or Keen).
New music is allowed and encouraged.
New Textures and Flats are allowed (Use a resosurce code to keep names form conflicting)
Give maps a moderate difficulty depending on where in the wad it occurs, Map01 should be relatively easy, Map29 should be relatively harder.
Any Style/Theme is allowed
Make maps fit all skill levels
All maps need atleast 2 secret areas.



In order to get this done in a timely manner and allow the most number of mappers to participate you may only take one map slot at a time. If you finish your first map while there are still open slots, you may sign-up to take a second map slot, and third.

If you aren't a great mapper, but would like to donate textures/flats or something else to the wad create a thread showing off some of your work and maybe one mapper will ask you to make a texture for them or use one of your already made textures.

Please send textures to me in either .bmp or already in a .wad file and I will begin to compile a resource Wad for everyone to use. You can PM me links to your textures or you can PM for my e-mail that you can send them to. Please only include textures which you are using. IF you make other textures that others may want to use post them in another thread for others to look at.

To help with progression it is recommended that you work with those who have maps right next to yours, if you can work it out to have the maps start and/or end areas fit together it would be nice. This is optional, so if it harms your creative style then don't worry about it

Resource Code: (2-3 letters to put in fornt of your textures/flats so that nothing conflicts i.e. PS or DD)
Music: (so maps won't use the same music, you don't need to submit this now, you can wait till you make your map)
Theme: (You can wait till you start your map before telling this as well, but it may help the progression if mappers pick slots near others with a similar theme)

I'm not sure which map slot I should call it yet heh. My map starts out tech style but could possibly be used as a theme change between levels as said in the other thread. I'll have to send in a proto soon so you can decided where to put it/where it could be fitting. its gonna be a moderately hard level though, although that could change too heh. Sign me ups. :)

What kind of theme does it change to Mr.Rocket. I could give you 21 which is the last map before the sky changes and also a relatively hard difficulty map slot, that would be a good transition point between themes.

Well I'm hoping for a variety of themes...Tech/Hell/Gothic/Outdoor/etc...but i would like to keep similar themes near eachother.

Just don't wait too long or the slot you want may get filled.

Mr.Rocket...I'll put you at Map04 for now, and we cna change it later if needed. I'll give you resource code MR unless you would like soemthign different.

You can send me your map and I may include something like it in the end of mine´s :). Mine´s gonna be quite short, you know, I´m not aiming for another "30 minutes" map and I´d prefer something much more linear.

BTW: It seems that the map I´m doing in the "Post your editor shots" thread is gonna be my contribution for NDCP2.

EDIT: About Boom compatible... Does that include "Vodoo Dolls"?. It would make the wad uncompatible with Legacy until Doom Legacy v2.0 is released... On the other hand, Vodoo Dolls allow for the coolest effects in Boom.

Do you guys have seen the movie Resident Evil part one, well im gonna make The Hive for this project.
I hope they never tried to make that before, so that means ive gotta do alot of watching Resident Evil for it.
Hopefully I can pull this off, the starting area will be the train station and im gonna leave the mansion part out though.

It think ill stick to all the zombie types the imps demons and spectres, ill go easy on the chaingunners though.
Making an train will be the biggest challenge for me, well let it look like an realistic one.

though I may change my slot when i start the map. I just wanted to secure a spot incase it gets filled up quickly. I'm not exactly sure on what theme i'll go with, but most of my maps end up being tech.

On the other hand, Vodoo Dolls allow for the coolest effects in Boom.AFAIK, Legacy is the only one that hasn't supported them hitherto, and that will clearly have been addressed in its official version by the time ndcp2 is finished. However, there are some differences in the way some voodoo doll effects are handled. Zdoom doesn't allow the zombie effect - if your health (as displayed on-screen) hits zero, you are dead. Possibly that will be the new Legacy behaviour too (I seem to remember it was in a version I looked at). On the other hand, in some cases the zombie effect might be a problem too. Just something to look out for if you use voodoo dolls in places where they can take damage or use them for some highly "creative" way to exit a map, rather than just pick stuff up.

I guess we could allow voodoo dolls as long as u don't use the zombie effect. I want as much compatibility as possible, but I agree they do create some great effects, so i guess we should allow them. Legacy 2.0 will certainly have them reimplemented. And then we should be fine.

Agreed. Keep all discussion in the "ndcp2..." thread. You can discuss whatever you wish in there. Or create a new thread. Lets leave this thread for Map Sign-ups only(well i guess you can get slightly off-topic, I know you will anyway).

I think that is a great idea, i encourage any of mappers with maps next to eachother do do this or something similar to make the wad progress better.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned how fracking awesome the titlepic Falci made looks! Even if in its current state it would look shit on the Doom palette, the general look of it is very cool. :p [edit: and then I see 10 more posts have been made... *sigh* nevermind]

I really want to try to make a map for this megawad. The only problem is that the maps ive done befor really sucked. Every time I play a map i think "i wanna be able to do such maps". And i see this as a chance to do that.

I was really inspired by the NDCP to author once again and would look forward to participating in the next go around.

If possible I would like to signup for slot 8.

My concept so far is an indoor/outdoor affair I would like to call "Garden Party".

Music will be my biggest challenge but I would like to try scoring something.

Just for the record, DD, dani, and PS.. when you see this :
The map I sent over I just started on, it's just so you can see it's theme nothing more heh. as is I'v just started on the map, its no way near finished heh
I plan on doing alot of cubic sector based archways in the big pinky area. the passage way back there will also be expanded as well, with a ton of steps if you know where I'm going with it now :)
It's just when i sent it to you guys you all acted like WOW this thing is finished or something hehe, it's actually the other way around. ;)

I also wont take offence if you all think it sucks and is not fit. I have been playing the NDCP 1 and it is fantastic. So a belated well done as well.

Also does anyone have an opinion on whether we have secret and regular exits in maps 16 and 31, or do yall just want 1 exit in the maps that leads you from 15-31-32-16.

I'd suggest that there should be both normal and secret exits in maps 15 and 31. The reason is that many people will assume there will be two exits in these maps, and when they come across one exit, they will assume it is the normal one. This might lead to them spending time looking for the other exit, which will lead to frustration if it doesn't exist.

There's no need to make the secret exits ultra-hard to find.

i think as far as lvl 31/32 go.. i like this -- and we just put this info in the readme file (NEAR THE TOP SO IT WILL GET READ lol) that way, you get a cool little rest(not really) with the wolfenstein level and the icon level :D then back to the normal maps... heh i like

So you want some mappers, huh? Well, I suppose I can come out of my years long isolation for just long enough to put together, say, Map20, seeing as reading this thread has given me ideas for a map to design. It will be called Unto The Breach and combine, at various points during the progression of the level, metal/tech, brick/castle(ish), and hellish elements.

I'll probably disappear again once the map is done - good luck with finishing everything else. *spin*

I'd like to sign up for whichever map will be right before the hell maps start. Reason being is that my map will end with a gateway to hell, so it would be rather silly to have the map/maps after it be something else.

Looking at the sign ups, I guess that would be either Map 21 or 22 then.

Just make my code NU. As for the theme it will be a metal/wood/brick overgrown with vines type of level. Something similar to the levels right before the 2 hell levels in Scythe 2. But instead of brown brick, they will be gray. Man, I suck at explaining stuff. :p

Thats just 2-3 letters that you will need to put in front of any textures/flats you make to keep things from conflicting. I guess if you don't plan on having any then it will be fine not to have one, but if you are you need one. You could use "UK" or something similar.

It's not someone else's responsability if they didn't receive your map, you have to make sure that you sent it. Also, your map slot was basically forfeit due to inactivity, so even if you had sent it (if it was even finished..), chances are it wouldn't have gotten in.

You´ll have your review once I finish playing NDCP and writing all reviews... Anyway, I woudl say that I liked the map... Your first?. Man, it doesn´t look or play as if it was... Anyway, you say it´s your first to be finished but I assume you have plenty of unfinished works. If I had to pick on something I´d say that is quite difficult but, you see, it´s also playable and fun.

Um..I'm sorry to say that it is likely that I will withdraw from NDCP 2. After seeing the screens of danimetal's map and General Grievous's map, I seriously doubt that my office complex map will live up to that kind of a standard.

Unless I have a brilliant epiphany and my map (which sorely needs detail and some half-decent architecture) gets some serious overhaul, then I will be leaving.

But don't offer slot 11 to anybody else for a while. I'm still working at it. :)

Actually, something brilliant just came into my head. I think a hellhole opened up in the middle of the office building. Off to work!

I don`t remember anybody talking about standards. Also, community projects happen to be comprised of different members of a community so you can´t expect all maps have the same characteristics.

Anyway, play any other community compilation and you´ll see that maps don´t meet any standards. Moreover, I wouldn´t judge a map by its screenshots (specially mine´s, they´re only editor screenies and don´t mean anything regarding fun and gameplay) and, even more important, would never try to compare my own map to any other. You know, if I did I´d surely be ashamed of my map´s quality (as I could with my previous NDCP map).

Finally, your possible decision to leave the project is only yours but, if I were you, I´d consider how important are the reasons you´re telling for you and also would think about the effect of your map in the whole project. I don´t know, I´m not trying to make something legendary out of map04: it´s just about making something that is fun and can be regarded as "another map".

Got to also understand, with the move change, as did my Email. Also for over 4 months I had no net connection what so ever.. I ended up finishing the map in a hotel room.. (that we were stuck in for 3 months x.x) And getting settled into a new home, I had to wait until my dad finally chose to get some sort of net connection, so I could send the map over his comp.. That was about the ONLY thing I could do..

Then my dad (cue another near two months) thought using a wireless router for ME to be on the net on my comp was an OHH SOO GOOD IDEA!

.......I want to burn that router.. I can't send email due to the firewall that even after messing with the settings still don't let me send stuff.. AIM even was being a pain so I couldn't even get a hold of CG. And ramdom bad or no signal is fun as well x.x


Anyway.. *cough* needs.. new textures now sense where not using the same resorce file.. So thats all I need to wait on, along with doing my own to fill in spaces..

Yea after all the slots are filled, i'll give everyone a 2-3 weeks and then have just a checkpoint to see how everyone's progress is. I don't want to rush anyone. Everyone needs time to map, I'm a pretty slow mapper, so I don't expect everyone to have their map finished. The last NDCP took 3 years. This one sure looks like it will go faster, but no one should feel rushed to finish.

I have yet to finish with 2 other areas around the yellow key exit and get the skinned areas looking how I want. you'v that have seen the proto will be glad to hear that the skin'd area is now scrolling all different directions, and have added some various small details in to the tech area. theres still a lot that needs to be done though and me and dani might want to switch slots mainly because of level sizes, but that may not matter.

Don´t count on me. Vanilla 3d floors tend to destroy all Coop compatibility. These devices aren´t vital to my map anyway but well.

With coop, remember it's not just the player starts. The maps need additional ammo and enemies too.

I don´t know how much into your maps you´re guys, but mine´s for example, doesn´t look like it could support coop too much: there are too many narrow places and a few "floor over floor" effects that would look most fun in coop. It could be worked out, of course, but would require a lot more of effort.

Yeah I guess during layout faze we should take in mind that the wad will most likely be getting played muliplayer co-op mode, and dm. but dm is optional.

What I plan on doing for dm is remake a small version of my map for dm with dm starts, out bound of the co-op singleplayer version area.

Well, I´ll certainly place the DM and Coop starts there... Still, do you guys think that we should aim for Coop gameplay too?. It would personally take a little bit of work more to me since I would have to change the vanilla 3d bridges to switchable moving bridges and also the fake room over room would look fun. Still, if everyone is going to do coop stuff I won´t be the one not doing it!.

Well, we'll see what happens. I make my maps in the HOT salsa catagory, rarely will I make them Mild. Throwing a few more monsters in on coop only might solve the problem in itself *diablo*

Although I'm not much of a coop player myself (so I don't really have a clue what makes a good coop map) I can say that I will try my best. I'll be sure to add extra weapons and monsters for coop, and make sure that at least 2 people can fit side by side in all areas of my map.

Whenever I get done with it, if some of the people who are working on this want to test it for coop and give me suggestions, they can. Now I'm not going to garuntee I'll use your suggestions or anything, but I'll definitely listen and take them into consideration. :)

The point isn't whether the map is good or not, it's that the rules stated that no more than one slot can be claimed at time to prevent the project from slowing down in case the author disappears.

Their maps are looking great. I haven't been able to do a whole lot of work on my map recently, due to some real-life issues. But don't worry, it will be finished eventually. The project has only been going on for a month, so we have plenty of time to map.

But I thought the hell maps weren't supposed to start till after map 20. Aren't we trying to keep themeatically similar maps together here? I'm not sure if the NDCP2 really needs any more hell (or tech) maps anyway. We already got a bunch of them. Probably doesn't matter though, since towards the middle of the megawad, map themes seem to be going all over the place anyway. :p

Nonetheless, I look forward to seeing whatever you do, Dutch. :)

I still need to give you feedback on your first map though, don't I (and yes, eye hav ze feedbax ;))

Anyways, if someone can't find a certain theme midi I can try and whip one up. I'm not the best composer but I'm making progress. Just go to my site and I have a few midis under 'music.' I have made a shit-load in the past but I only have my most recent midis uploaded (the rest suck).

I think I might take 237 for my wad. I've been pouring through MIDI's ever since I started this wad trying to find something I liked.... Heh, that's the first I found that I actually liked. I know I don't want rock type stuff, but I also don't want ambient w/no beats type stuff either. Blah, I'm probably too picky for my own good. :p Great job on that one though. :D


Anyways, if someone can't find a certain theme midi I can try and whip one up. I'm not the best composer but I'm making progress. Just go to my site and I have a few midis under 'music.' I have made a shit-load in the past but I only have my most recent midis uploaded (the rest suck).

Ive downgrabbed it straight away, nice track to play while im mapping it really gets me in an doom mood.

I think I might take 237 for my wad. I've been pouring through MIDI's ever since I started this wad trying to find something I liked.... Heh, that's the first I found that I actually liked. I know I don't want rock type stuff, but I also don't want ambient w/no beats type stuff either. Blah, I'm probably too picky for my own good. :p Great job on that one though. :D

You think you have me so figured out, don't you? :p Never mind the fact that you're right. ;) I don't know if you ever listen to a group called Delerium, but they made a industrial song called "Aftermath" which is something that's similar to what I'm looking for.

I haven't made many good ones since I usually don't make many tech maps to complement them.
Mines isn't a tech map though, it's going to be a hell map. I like dark moody peices for hell maps.

I don't think that a long map is a necessity. Many times I feel that a map was made long just for the sake of it, not because there were enough varying ideas to make it big.

I am willing to swap but I will not change the theme ive got going now, mine will not be huge it will be medium sized of course bigger than my other map.
Im using map slot 18 maybe whe can swap my music sounds evil enough for map29 :), the theme might not be very fitting though but like I said I rather stick to the theme ive got now.

It's no big sweat. I'm sure you've got other things to take care of anyway (especially the 1024 competition). It's getting hard for me even to take care of my map, with its bugginess, and the fact that I've got 3 other single-maps in progress (one of which is for 1024c, interestingly enough) and a SEEKRIT megaproject in the planning stages.
