You should be developing games, damnit! You're just too good for your own sake! :p

Very nice work you've got going.

*looks. Decides he's looking at screens for wrong game. Looks again. Blinks. Drools*

Holy shit! You're crazy! If building those things in Risen3D is similar to building structions like that in Legacy or ZDoom then that's bloody tedious work. So shiny. :D

Now I gotta downgrab Risen3D!

Actually I believes he uses models for a lot of it, doesn't he? Damn nicework anyway, sure better than anything I could take the time to make.

yes they are just models used to emulate map geomatry. i object to it, but never the less the level looks quite cool, sitters.

I'm afraid that sitters makes the most visually appealing maps out there. I really like the models. That being said, I also like jdoom.

Thanks everybody, I appreciate it.

Strike back is an start of a new stile of mapping for Risen3D.

In the new release of risen3D the architecture models have an place as things from 7000-7999, and a lot of new features.

Now the model occlusion is solved and we can make an collision shield, the models can be an real part of the architecture.
The handling of models with a lot of poly's as architecture, is for Risen3D no problem.

So the challenge for me is to make an new generation of maps that have the same look so close as possible, like the modern games.*winky*

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mapping, great hobby and a lot of fun.*bliss*

A good Xmas to everybody.

Greetings.

As soon it is ready, I am now on 40% of the level.

But first we get the latest release of Risen3D and the level Genetic Disaster.

Holy Shit, that looks Simply Amazing. I can't believe thats still Doom. I need to learn how to make models for R3D. I can't wait to play this level.

oooo .. i reconize some of the textures--- from UT (on your other maps -- eg. Chiller Castle) love those gothic textures from unreal tournament.. theres some very nice ones there.. as well as some really nice tech stuff

and fatal... if you like jdoom.. then r3d is also for you ,because in essence it is a combination of doomsday and boom, however from the immense changes you cant trace it back to either lol, i mean honestly... models, hires textures, 3dfloors... generalized lindef actions.. i mean what moore could you ask for in a port.. well besides fs... (off topic: imo -- the only thing r3d lacks is FS support :D)

-edit: if they added fs support to r3d, i think it would be the ultimate port...

They would probably add ACS. ACS is much more flexible and is needed for Hexen. ACS would be the better choice for compatibility and it has mroe features than FS atm.

Thanks,

The next release of Risen3D has an lot of more features, like interaction with architecture models, slopes etc.

Abbs has remake Lost City, in the Return of Lost City, and put an lot of the new features in the level.

Releasing soon.

Edit : Yea "I dont use iddqd" I am also using graphics from other games and parts for my skins.
If I must design them all, then one level takes months before it is finish.
But it is no problem, I don't use it for commercial purpose's, just an hobby.

"pumpkinSmasher" , I use wings3D for my models, its free and easy to use.
The only thing what wings3D don't do is animation.
It is an subdivision modeler with uv mapping.
When you use models as architecture you must keep them low poly, so the engine isn't to much stress full.

i do concurr :D but anyway -- i have UT, and WoT-- and doom,doom2,finaldoom.. i wish i could convert doom3 textures... heh :P but i cant seem to do it...

omg... you are a genius... and in chiller castle-- is that iron maiden midi i hear? lol? if so... ROCK ON DUDE!

i just played it for the first time... spectacular is all i have to say... :D

and as far as my comment on the UT textures -- i wasnt flaming -- theres some nice stuff in there... you gave me the inspiration to perhaps use some of them... :D

I may have to try that program. It will probably be a while before I could make anything worth releasing, but it might be fun to mess around in and see what I can come up with. I'll try to download it.

If Legacy V2.0 is gonna get models I´ll surely use it or Milkshape 3d (if it´s supported)... Of course, there´s the problem of replacing existing stuff with new models so I wish I had decorate... How does Risen3d manage them?.

As if I had been around here for a long time :P. Nah, most of my posts are useless stuff on the "Now playing" threads, bragging, self-pimping and similar thingies. Only sometimes I try to do anything useful for the community like answering a question with another question ;).

You can convert doom3 textures in photo shop, but it is a lot of work.
you must create one texture out of three of four textures.
But if you want to do it simple, you can use the best texture and the local map with the 3D information.
Convert the 3D map to an gradient layer and overlay this with the texture in an new layer.
You can re-render the gradient layer with light effects filter with white is high.
Some brightness and contrast and some more filters and you have your texture.
How more work you put in it, how better the texture looks.:)

Yes I chiller castle I use an iron maiden midi.;)

Can you make new monsters too, I would't like to see doom3 monsters in a map for doom2 ;)
It would be cool though see a bunch of doom3 imps attack you, not just two at a time no about 10 at once:D
Don't know if thats possible to make animated monster models for risen3d.

Reading your above post tells me your putting alot of effort in your maps, al that work with textures takes alot of patience.
But in the end its all worth it.

Yes I can make animated models weapons everything I like for the level.
But the quantity of the data is already 14MB and I am only on 60% of the level.
I can go to half resolution but I like Hires.

The textures is not a big problem, I know photo shop very well.
The modeling is the most work because the models must be low poly, 800 poly's max, for not stressing the engine to much.*winky*

So when I see an nice model, I (remodel )duplicate the model but then low-poly.
The most of work is to fit the skin and let the model look the same as the original.
In most cases I must reassembly the skin with photo shop to fit my model.

The result is all-most the same as the original but a lot of poly's less.

And of-course I make also models and skins from scratch.

But it is an hobby and fun.*spin*

Thanks,

I change my stile of mapping, because in the new version of Risen3D,
the architecture models have there one place from thing 7000-7999.

The occlusion of the models in this range is removed.:D
There is now interaction with models and a lot of more stuff.:)

Graham did put a lot of effort in this new version.
And it is great.:D

It looks more like an doom3 map to me, which is cool of course.
Ive got to agree with PS your maps don't give me the classic doom feeling anymore, but I don't mind they rock anyway.

Your updated screens look sweet, its kinda hard to believe this is all for classic doom.

Thanks, This is for me the first map with the new Risen3D, so this is an kind of map for me, to test out the possibilities of the architecture models.
And it is great, there are almost no limits for creating environments.:D

But when I make an real 3D hell-is castle, I can create the doom feeling, with an great environment.:)

Huh? Surely you aren't using one person's mod to judge a whole source port?

Anyway, those latest screens are looking awesome as usual, sitters. I don't really get the Doom 3 references though; it looks more like F.E.A.R. to me.

Just a nice looking map with the possibilities of Risen3D.:D

There are a lot of kicking doom maps, my maps are an nice change for the eye.
