Are you so sick of trying to get DOOM 3 to run decently that you stopped caring about how good the graphics looked?

If you're one of those people, like me, then today is your lucky day.

A guy who calls himself "DOOM" has modified DOOM 3 so that it can run good on a VooDoo 2 card and higher. The graphics may look crappy now, but at least you can play the game now, which is more important.

Here are some screenshots and a download link.

Please tell me what you think of this patch.

Now my question is:
The installer tells you to add the line 'r_singleLight "0"' to the config file. Without the line, my computer still ran the game poorly (Intel 82845G). But after adding the line, it ran SO much faster! Now I can play through the game without having to woory about all that lag!

But here's the problem: After each game session, the magic line is removed from the config file. Even though an included BAT program runs the game with the command line attached, it still doesn't work. Is there any way that I can keep the line in the config file after I put it in there? If there is, then I'm all set!

You can create a file called autoexec.cfg. The commands in that file aren't altered by doom3, and it's always executed after the basic config file, so no commands are overwritten.

Create autoexec.cfg in the same folder as the other ones, and put your special commands there.

That didn't work either. Any other ideas?

Sorry. My mistake.

Welcome to 2004. The train for 2005 departed almost a year ago. ;p

I've had DOOM 3 ever since it came out. This was something I haven't even seen before, and since there's nothing about it here, I thought I'd make a thread about it.

FATAL's idea worked the whole time!

The problem was, the autoexec file was named "autoexec.cfg.cfg" for some weird reason. I renamed it just "autoexec.cfg" using WinRAR, and now it works! Now I can finally work my way through DOOM 3. Thanks FATAL!

Glad you got it to work. Windows has the mean feature which disables known file extensions. The worst thing is that it's on by default, and creates just things like this one.
