View Full Version : Doom64 TC Staging Area Secret Exit to Cat n Mouse

So I've been playing level one of Doom64 TC for hours trying to open the damn secret exit to secret level 32 - Cat and Mouse, so that I can get to Hectic and enable some cool stuff like jumping and whatnot.

But I CANNOT get it to open - I've done everything I should, blown the barrels up in the correct order, killed all the monsters, taken BOTH secret teleporters back to the beginning (the one hidden in the hallway and the one in the blue key room that has a soulsphere up the top) - I used to own Doom64 and as a result I know how to get the secret exit open; but it's just refusing to.

So I enabled noclipping mode and checked out the wall behind where the door is SUPPOSED to be - there is a teleporter there, but when I check the map, there is no room there, so I'm basically floating in the middle of a dead space, and I can't use the teleporter. The only way to get to Level 32 is to level-warp, and I don't want to do that.

So... wtf is going on? Why can't I access the hidden teleporter? Obviously people can because the walkthru mentioned it. Maybe my version is fscked or something.

And before you start recommending anything, I'll do a recap - I've tried everything I can think of to access the damn thing, including following the proper procedure to get it open, and nada.

-EDIT-

C'mon!!! I've seen 10 people look at this, someone must know something!! *begs* For once I don't wanna cheat if I don't have to - I'd like to play the game through properly.

So I've decided 3 things:

No-one can help me

No-one knows the answer really

and

The secret exit doesn't exist coz it's not on the map.

C'mon man!

How bout trying a little thing called "search" for D64 Walkthroughs.

You might get lucky.

the secret only stays open for a few seconds, the only way to make it is to destroy the barrell at the beginning last, and run for it.

also, this stuff has been asked before, thats why nobody wants to help you. use search next time.

Didn't your mother teach you manners? She obviously didn't send you to school either, because you apparently can't read. On the N64 version, it shows on the map and you can hear it open. On the PC port, none of the above is true - and I said that it wasn't on the map, which is why I'm perplexed. I can get to where the door is inhumanly fast after detonating that last barrel, but there is still no frigging door.

Please don't treat me as if I hadn't already thought of searching - in fact I spend the better part of 2 hours looking for the answer, and I went through here, Gamefaqs, Google, IGN gaming, and a shitload of other sites, some of which were so loaded to the brim with spyware I felt like kicking a hole in the wall. I'm not an idiot, and I appreciate that you guys get asked alot of questions when the answers are right there. Which is why I fully explained the situation. After following tips from here and intensive comprehensive walkthroughs, and googling for clues, I still have no luck. The least you can do is acknowledge that fact, instead of acting like draconian fucking elitists.

Well you got me curious, so I tried it and the secret exit works no problem. I've never read a walkthrough for the TC version, but I got to it no problem just doing what I remembered from the original N64 game.

Starting from scratch, list to me each of the barrels you destroyed. There's clearly something either you're not doing, or you need a fresh install of the game.

I read the faq there about the barrels and I do see one thing that MIGHT cause problems for idiots. It has to do with this line:

There is a secret chamber with combat armor and another barrel near the far northeast corner of the map. Leave it for now though.

An idiot might think you leave the barrel alone too. Obviously you need to shoot it, which you're never instructed to do at the end of the faq when it has you go back to collect this armor.

i honestly dont know what the problem is. i did the barrels by memory, and i got it right. but that doesnt help because you said you tried everything obvious. hmmmm.....

well, i cant think of anything except keep trying. make sure you get all nine barrels. the one at the beginning last. make sure you get the one at the normal exit, because i looked in there once an missed it because i didnt go all the way in.

anyways, i dont know how your doing it, but something is wrong. try giving a detailed description on the barrels you blow up. we can help you better if you do that.

I just played Level 1: The Staging Area after reading this, and I too was able to get the secret door to open.

Edit: I just realised how old this thread is....
