I want to know how this client server thing works. Is it like the ones in Doom 3, zdaemon, and skulltag where you have a master list and you click on one entry in the list to join a game? Does heretic fully work in legacy with no bugs?

Zdaemon is taking their time but will make heretic, I don't want to wait, and skulltag isn't doing anything about heretic, hexen, and strife, for which I deleted skulltag off my computer many times.

Skulltag is good, but when it comes to Client server sourceports, it comes at the bottom of my list since it doesn't support and won't improve on heretic/hexen support.

When I play doom, I use zdaemon because I don't want to use those new skulltag weapons and items and stuff like that. It also saves up space because I know skulltag won't support heretic.

For heretic OTOH, I only know legacy and vavoom both will fully support heretic and are fully supporting them. I want to know which one of their client server part of their source port has a working master list, closer to full heretic support so I can play heretic with vanilla graphics.

I think Legacy's masterserver is currently offline. In the additional command line parameters, you simply add -server if you're hosting or -connect to join games. Legacy 2.0 is planned to have all new multiplayer code, so this may change.

Check the multiplayer forum (http://forums.newdoom.com/forumdisplay.php?f=82), which should give you some useful info.

problem is, are people willing to play heretic? Or make a heretic dm and a heretic coop and a heretic teamdm server?

Unfortunately, no. Even the Doom-legacy servers are empty, if there is one :)
I don't think there are many peopels out there who play heretic in network, because if they play and oldskool shooter, they play Doom/Duke3d/Quake1. And to be honest, is heretic really that good? ;)

WTF, are you on drugs? Both Zdaemon and Skulltag are based off of Zdoom, which has support for Heretic, Hexen AND Strife. I've played Hexen DM in Skulltag several times.

No, there's not that many people playing Heretic DM, for whatever reason I don't know because. YES it's that good. Some maps I have particularly fond memories of playing DM in are E1M1, E1M5, E1M6, E1M8, E3M6 and E3M8. Me and my classmates used to play it very extensively on a serial link in school.
