Which one has suicide attack? ticks or trites?

I saw in many websites that ticks are the ones that explode. I fought many of them and when they got close, they bite instead of explode. I never seen one explode.

When I first played the game, I always thought trites never exploded. I thought ticks exploded and I was WTF, isn't it supposed to explode? I just finished alphalabs sector 2 and near the end where you first meet the trites, I killed most of them, went up the ladder, killed some more on the balcony and there are a few left on the ground floor. I was at the balcony thinking the trites cannot get me. They were walking around and I shot one of them. I was near the edge of the balcony and it came towards me, jumped up, and exploded into blue plasma stuff. I tried on another one and it did the same thing.

Is it supposed to do that?

I think you got the two mixed up. The trites are the lighter gray ones with upside-down heads, and ticks are the ones with slightly darker skin and red, organ-like material on the forehead and "knees".

Otherwise I have no idea WTF it's doing that for.

no no no. You know that I refered to the end of alphalabs 2 right? ONLY trites, spiders with upside down heads are there, and they do explode. I always thought the ticks did that.

I'm not mixed up and i know what both are. You first see ticks in deltacomplex and is way after the alphalabs levels.

You know the spiders that explode in my case are the ones that don't squeak when they die.

They make one appearance (I forget where). I'm not surprised if there are more in the PC version, as I'm more than sure that they took stuff out. After all, there was only one appearance of "Bernie" in the Xbox version, and, IIRC, the PC demo had 2 or 3 in one level. :/

As for the problem with the trites exploding, while I still think it could easily be a mix-up, it does sound a bizarre problem. I would not be able to tell you why it would do that but it shouldn't.

Well I never tested how much damage it dealt since I had god cheat on. I don't even know if it was a "real" explosion. I think there is a bug in the game and the exploding code happens to be in the trite code.

Well, if you're using god mode than it would be impossible to tell anyway (besides the game's no fun with godmode on IMO). And no, there is not a bug in the game that does that. If the spiders LITERALLY explode as in they are no longer living after the attack, then I don't know WTF that is the problem. But trites do not explode.

remember, this only happens if you are on a balcony and they are on the ground floor. This only happens if they try to jump onto the balcony and BOOM. If you are on the same level as them, they just bite.

Ticks make a different noise. None of that horrible crunchy one on Trites. They have a cute squeak sound. And they do look different too.

Right after coming back from hell and past the first couple doors, they come out of a low vent or a hole.

and they never exploded on me. WHY????

do you hear noises when they explode? like a BOOM noise or something?

I read in the DooM 3 strategy guide that the Ticks indeed did explode, dealing 40 damage. But I have not seen any in both of the versions of DooM 3, PC or XBOX.


Also, there is a difference in the two, the Ticks have sharper looking heads with a little red on the top.
