I'm finally going to be in a band (http://www.myspace.com/eyessewnshut69) soon! They're calling themselves "Eyes Sewn Shut", and have been playing locally for a little while. They've been without drummer for a while, and thanks to a mutual friend, I've been hooked up. Don't take the demo on the MySpace page as a good example of their music, or so I'm told. I haven't gotten to hear them yet, but I'm told they're going for a melodic death metal sound, which is right up my alley.
Zach, the band leader, has already put me up as the drummer on the MySpace page, but I have yet to actually try out. I should get it, but I don't know. I'll let you guys know what comes of it ASAP. We're going to try to do a practice session tomorrow, but the jury's still out. Sunday for sure, though. :D
Wish me luck!

It's official. I am now a part of Eyes Sewn Shut.
We had first practice tonight, and it went rather well. It looks like I'm going to click with these guys. I've already gotten several of their songs learned. I'm going to try to get some recordings of them, so I can sit down and listen to them at home and put some beats to them.
It really surprised me, though. I hadn't realized how old they were until Zach was driving me home. Sixteen. All of 'em. And I'm going to be nineteen next month... I'm goddamn old.
They're pretty fuckin' good, though. A lot better than I was at 16. They definitely have the talent to go places. They all said that they were very impressed with my playing, and that I was leagues better than their last drummer. I'd say that overall, we're all around the same skill level, so we've got a lot of room to grow together.
I think I'm going to try to worm my way into being the PR representative for the band as well. I may not be the loudest, but I'm pretty good with words. I know I'm definitely doing a website for the band. I'm going to tweak the MySpace page a little as well, so it's not as dull.

That´s really great Nomad!.
I remember you saying that you couldn´t find anyone to play with in your area and now, well, you see :). I´m sure you will enjoy the experience and if the gig panorama is better in the States than here, you´ll be playing live soon :).
Also, I wouldn´t bother about the age, serious. When I entered my band I was 19 (just like you) while the other guys in it were from 23 to 26 or something like that. The only thing that was strange about it was to think about that gap but soon it didn´t matter anymore as I hooked up with them nicely... Now we all are older and the older we are, the less that ages matter but. It may not be the same case but ,in the end, it´s all about the music.

The local band scene around here is actually pretty massive, even here in Hicksville, Wyoming. If I get the songs learned well enough and quick enough, we've got some live gigs lined up as early as next month.

I'm not concerned about the age gap at all. I really was just marvelling at how good they were. Aside from just goofing around (which EVERYONE does, regardless of age ;P ), they are all very mature for their ages. Remind me of myself when I was younger. :)
