I have permission to convert the excellent Evillair textures (http://evillair.net/textures.htm) to Doom format. I'm busy with another project right now but if anyone wants to get started on it that'd be hugely appreciated. Nothing like some totally kick-ass new textures eh?
From Evillair:
Sure, as long as I get credited for the textures and you include that you got permission to convert them in your readme please.
Thanks!
So yeah, new textures. Wahhoo!

So resize them and change their resolution? Any particular format wanted?

Not really, just figure out a way (or even a couple ways if you want) to get them in as a doom palette .bmp. I imagine most the 256x256 ones will have to be shrunk but if a person wants they could chop it into 2 128x256 peices. It'll take some work to get them to fit as is so it'll be up to the person doing it as to the best way there. Just as long as it's compatable with all the ports that is...

256x256 should probably work in Legacy, JDoom, and ZDoom. What other ports are important? :p

Smart arse! I'd preffer it was kept Boom compatable. That way the work is useful to the maximum amount of people.

Some of those are going to require some rather extensive editing in order to be able to be used in Doom.
I've been working on the e7 set, and some of the different textures are designed in a way that they need to stay the same width as other textures. Like e7swindow (256*256) needs to stay the same width as e7walldesign01 (256*512). Since e7walldesign01 has to be shrunk down to 128*64, shrinking e7swindow down to 128*128 wouldn't cut it as the width would be different and the bricks would be different sizes, thus rendering the window useless. So you have to size it to 64*64 instead.
And some, like e7walldesign01 are 256*640, a texture which also needs to stay the same width as the 2 textures I mentioned above, so you have to shrink it to 64*160, which obviously wouldn't work in Doom. So then you have to edit the actual texture to get it into 64*128 dimensions.
Let's just say that e7 will be the only one I'll be doing. :p
Yeah, I could just half ass it and not give a shit what they look like, but that's not my style. Nuxius wants it done right, or he doesn't do it at all! ;)

And that's exactly the way it should be done. :) heh, that's why when I looked them over I grabbed e6 and e8--those gothic textures are gonna be a huge hassle. On the other hand feel free to make them multiple vertical parts as they can always be stacked with either very narrow sectors for vanilla doom or with 3D Blocks for Legacy.
In any case, thanks for doing this! It'll be very appreciated!

Just posting to say that I AM still working on this, just haven't found much time to do it. I wasn't really happy with my initial results, so I'm trying something a bit different this time. ;)

When will we be allowed to see some conversion process shots? or is that under wraps until its final release?

Bah on you! Heh, I started working on it too but the stuff I got done hasn't converted too well either Nuxius. Now watch, by the time it gets done Legacy will support the bloody .jpgs / .tgas. :p

But still your work would have been a nice and useless additon :P. Just kidding. I don´t know if the support is gonna be Hardware only but better to have these kind of packs available :).

Alright, I put together a beta thinger of the textures I have converted so far (from the e7 texture set). It isn't in wad format, only gifs in the doom pallette right now.
I haven't really had any time to work on this at all lately, so I figured I'd put up what I have so far to see what others think.

The texture conversion is looking pretty good so far :)
The e7arch01 texture though, I'm sure you know this already but you might want to make
an extra version of it replacing the black center with cyan clear *wacky*
What I ment by the confusion diffusion thing is, its looking good.
Theres no bad diffus pixel blending, and possibly stateing that rellik might have been confused by that. :)

If you could lend two hands that'd be like 1.752 times better. :)
