I used to have the Wad and everything But ive lost my Games, also how hard is it to start making maps? I tried before when I had the .wad for doom 2, but I wasent much good at it with all the wall textures and stuff. I was using DB BTW
And maybe if someone could maybe Go on MSN, and send me a certain file ;) I would be very happy :p
How long would you think it would take for someone with no knolendge of building maps to become pretty good (as in be able to make short maps with matching textures working doors and stuff not great but decent at making maps)
I Have probebly Babbled on a bit like I usually do, but I hoe someone can Help me get that certain file and answer my questions

That was an unnecessary second post. Please, read the rules here (http://forums.newdoom.com/showthread.php?t=23889) as they talk about important things about double posting. Also, try to be patient and wait for an answer to your question: the more you post doesn´t mean that you´re gonna catch attention and get a quicker response, it´s more likely that you´re not getting a good reputation doing so.
...
Now, to answer your questions. If you had the original Doom files you can download or ask for copies of them in case you´ve lost your files or they got corrupted or something like that. I´m not going to suggest where do you have to download them, neither I am sending them to you since I don´t know you at all but, maybe, you could have better luck with other users.
As for the time it could take to become decent at map making depends entirely on you. If you´re fast understanding the rules of something you will get the basics of Doom editing and the editor itself soon. Also, if you have a fast eye you will learn much quicker the tricks that other authors use and will be able to implement them in your map. Finally, the quality of the map depends a lot on your own concept of quality so I´d recommend you to practice a lot and to work on your maps until you see they are of the quality you expected.
There is a nice guide about DB on it´s website. It´s on PDF format, but I think there´s also an HTML one somewhere. Following the steps detailed there you can get the basics pretty quickly. Try also this site: http://numerometria.com/doom.htm . Good luck.

Really man, it isn't legal to show where the doom wads lie.
Back in days when I started mapping (thanks to dittohead, Aliceschain or dissentone, however you wish to be called. He was the one who got me to mapping). I made one test map, which already turned to be better than many people ever get done, most likely due to the fact that Dittohead and I were both making our first maps during the time and knew absolutely nothing about doom editing. We shared the tricks we learned to each other, and commented each other's maps almost all the time, which also helped alot. Now on I only comment his maps, since I don't map. :)
However, my first wad is still unfinished as I got bored with it. The final maze is missing, but otherwise it's pretty good.
Then I made a deathmatch wad for an editing contest, which was a bit better than the first one I made, and I liked it mostly. However, I came second in the contest, and there were two contestants. Bugger.
Hehe, my third map is the NDCP map. Boy, it's the best map I've done, probably the best one I'll ever get done too. Hideous traps, cunning puzzles and rewarding secrets. I'm very proud of it.
Sure I'm not even close to an elite mapper: I don't use any tricks, I don't do any port specific stuff and I don't make my maps very detailed. However, when I myself like the maps I've done, I'm very happy.
Heh, the only advice I have for you is that get someone familiar with mapping to your side when you start to answer your questions and to figure out what's wrong with your map.
Don't ask why I told all this stuff about my own experiences, I just felt like it.

watch out for yourself on the doom forums man, the nice people are overshadowed by the snobby narcs.

Don't ever go asking for the DooM IWADs here. You won't get them. I DO however have a way to get them for you though I know it may seem like a strange idea.
"You BUY it!" Thanks Phoebus.:p

Alternatively, if you want to try your hand at Doom editing, you can always download the shareware WAD. That'll give you episode 1 of Doom, which is more than adequate to give you practice at editing and an idea of whether you want to drop money on getting it again.

yes never ask for warez. you have to find them yourself *wacky*
seriously though, you should just go pick up the collector's edition. its cheap and has all the original doom games.

I always thought that you couldn't edit with the shareware one, because you haven't registered? Or is that loading the files...

The shareware version just doesn't have all of the weapons, monsters or textures. I think that otherwise it's completely compatible.
