when the monsters killed each other? I always did. It's almost like watching a 3 stooges movie or something. *laff*

Of course. Especially if it's something like an arachnotron vs. 10 zombies.

For me, I don't think "amusing" is the correct word.

The real-life Nazis would act similarly in a heated battle (so I've heard).

They're Hellspawn; they are chaotically-natured enemies. I don't get amused, but I do think "heh-heh" when I set them up to do that. Saves me ammo and trouble. :)

I only find it amusing in those rare occasions that a barrel sets off a battle between 2 of the same monster. Nothing beats some Baron on Baron action (get your mind out of the gutter)

Not really, the occasions when such things have happened, is when some stranded soldiers would sneak from behind enemy lines back to their own folks. And soviet union's one of the most famous one is when they we're finishing up their encirclement around Stalingrad, and when the soldiers met, some of them were killed, because they thought that they were facing enemies instead of friends.

These things happen in almost every military operation, there's little that can be done to prevent it.

Nothing beats getting the two spideys against all those Arachnotrons in Spirit World.

You can do a similar trick in Barrells 'O Fun.

Good stuff!

Haha i always get a laugh when a sargeant is shooting you, and an imp is standing behind the sargeant attempting to shoot at you. Then the sargeant gets a fireball in the back :)

I always get a smile at the beginning of PumpkinSmasher's 1024 contest map. A chaingunner which is a bit further kills some zombies in front of you.

One thing that looks funny is when a hell knight or baron is getting ready to attack you but is hit from behind at just the right moment, and the fireball then comes out of its back. This happens quite often on Nightmare runs on Doom2 map05 - the chaingunner tends to hit the hell knight soon after you open the red key door.

A trick I always like to play on the Revenants was as soon as they fire, let the fireball fallow you, run around behind the Revenant and quickly move out of the way so that he gets hit by his own fireball. fun stuff, and if there's alot of them, that much more fun and helps save on ammo. :P

With the revenants, I either find a pillar/obstacle and jump behind it so I don't get hit. When that doesn't work, I back up into a wall and let it get as close as it can, and then strafe left/right. But that method sounds much more fun (at least, if the Revenant doesn't start punching you when you try it).

Saving ammo? I didn't know that revenants can butcher themselves.

AFAIK, the only monsters that can effectively harm themselves are the archviles (with their own splash damage) and pain elementals (by being attacked by the lost souls they have produced). Both these facts can be very useful if you need to conserve ammo and/or health, and also in Pacifist runs.

If you consider the boss brain and boss shooter as a single enemy (which I wouldn't, since they can be used separately), then that's a third one. Generally archies (splash damage) and pain elementals (lost souls will direct their attack at the boss brain if it is in their path when charging) are the best for that purpose. Useful for Pacifist runs on maps with an exposed boss brain.

Heh, in the older versions it is possible to get monsters to fight against themselves. I've seen some demos.

In MAP20 in Doom2, I like to get the Cyberdemon and Spider Mastermind against each other and help the spider, then the spider just turns on me, it also cool in MAP32 in Plutonia, with the huge battlefield of demon's they are lined up and they all fire, but its fun to be invisible and let one monster accidentally hit the other and a civil war starts when all the walls are down.
