name of the doom guy

When you first played doom, what did you call the doom guy? As you find more information about doom, did you change the name of the doom guy to fit that information you got?

When I first played the game, I called the doom guy "doom guy". When I heard about the novels and read the storyline from the reviews, I started calling him "Taggart" and used that name ever since.

I just call him Doom Guy. I don't really like the name Flynn Taggart al that much. I do have the novels though, and love the first two.

Why not just go by first person perspective and use the word I. Say in the beginning that the doom guy forgot what his name was and his teammates call him the doom guy as a nickname or something like that.

i didnt name him at first, he was just "player". and then i read the book and started calling him "Flynn Taggart" or "Fly"

Considering it's a first person shooter and I don't refer to games' main characters all too often, I usually just refer to the doomguy as myself... I don't go saying, "Sh*t, that Arch-Vile keeps killing the DoomGuy!" :p

I think John Romero or somebody stated that much straight up...you are the Doom Guy, so he doesn't really need a name. He's whatever you want to call him. I called him Bob.

And I hate the name Flynn Taggart. What kind of name is that?Agreed. When I hear the name Flynn Taggart, the first thing that comes to my mind is a cross between some preppy dude in a golf/tennis outfit and Ralph from The Simpsons; also, he talks like a character in Monty Python.

I still call the heretic guy "I" but his real name is corvus
I call hexen fighter, cleric, mage, "I" but their real names are baratus, parias, and daedolon respectively.

Besides "I", what real name do you give the doom guy? Like I said, I called him doom guy until I read the novels and then called him Taggart only. No flynn. Flynn is a gay part of his name and should be taken out. I can even make names up such as uh doom guy. I couldn't think up any names so I just call him taggart and whoever is second player in coop lan game would be sanders. I doubt anybody would name someone flynn unless they are some doom maniac. I almost suggested to someone to name their kid "Doom Guy". How stupid was that.

If I made a real name up instead of "I", I can say, wow, I am so and so.

I guess the doom guy having no name gives possibilities to make up names such as Charlie Murphy and Rick James. I would call the doom guy Taggart when playing normally and Rick James or Charlie Murphy when playing only with fists and god mode on. Every time I would kill someone with berserk punch, I would say "I'm Rick James bitch" and do the Rick James laugh. If I did that with heretic, I would say, DAMN, heretic guy already has a name.

Some people say the "Doom Guy", but I say instead the "Doom Marine" 'coz that's what he is, he's not just some guy.

More than that, I agree with Grazza: The Doom Marine is a Man with No Name.

I call him Doom Guy. Mainly because in YPOD, the guy goes DOOMGUYDOOMGUYWENEEDYOURHELPOMGWTF when you pick up the phone :D
