level 23 - HELP

Hello,

I am new to your forums. My friend and I have been playing Classic Doom and we are so frustrated with level 23 and that huge, rock-'em, sock-'em robot-looking creature who seemingly can't be destroyed and who immediately kills us.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

doom, doom 2 or what? I assume you are talking about doom 2 and that robot thing is the spider mastermind. Use the BFG. If not, use plasma rifle. If not, use the rockets and strafe into cover, or cheat heheheheheh.

Nothing seems to work on him. I read somewhere something about it taking about 40 hits of the rockets - but I couldn't find that info again.

Again, its the first Doom - not Doom 2. So, would this be the same creature you mentioned? He is huge, and you hear his 'boom, boom' footsteps....

oh you mean the cyberdemon. It is not level 23. Once you say that, everybody assumes doom 2. Doom 1 has episodes and are named episode [1-4] map [1-9] The level you were talking about must be E2M8 or episode 2 level 8. That thing, you just keep on launching rockets at it while strafing away from his rockets. That's what I did. My brother beat that thing in nightmare difficulty where the rockets from the cyberdemon travels faster than the original speed.

Oh - I didn't realize they weren't considered levels - I am not familiar with all of the lingo. I know that where after each part which is completed and a password is provided - this is the 23rd time we've written a password. So, I guess I am confused about the E2M8 - I guess each episode has several different parts which you finish? (where the password is provided)? By the way - does it make a difference that it is PS1 I am using?

And wow - your brother is impressive. We must have restarted the episode like 20 times by now (and by the way - thats a pain too - to have to hit 'reset' each time and wait for it to load, then go to options and put in password. Is there a shortcut?

PSX doom is different to PC doom. The Tower of Babel (which is the level with the cyberdemon in it for you) is level 23 on the PSX version.

o.... sry dude. I always forget that doom can be for the consoles too. Anyway, same strategy but I dunno if it is easier because you are using a controller not a keyboard.

It's harder for me. The joypad's too fiddly for my liking. Takes a load of finger contortion jsut to be able to sprint and fire at the same time. All that while also trying to strafe and such too.

Yeah... whenever I play that I have sore thumbs for a long while afterwards. Although once I played it on an emulator with the keyboard. *weird*
