View Full Version : Looking for help with Megawad.

I am currently working on a Megawad designed for Doom2. Over roughly 2 and a half / 3ish months I have completed 7 levels.

The Megawad is as yet, untitled. There is no particular theme to this wad, but I am planning on making chapters (much like the recent scythe 2 Megawad, I.E. 5-6 levels in a gothic style, or techy themed group of maps, and hell type maps etc…).

The first 7 levels are more or less done, and are so far consist of mainly brick textures. This is the first chapter and the levels thus far seem to flow nicely and have a coherent theme to them.

If anyone is interested in helping it would be welcome.

Let me know *thumbs*

Mapping basically, if i can get someone else on board making the levels, i can continue mapping aswell. I really just feel i'll never get it finished if i stay doing it by myself.

You might want to post some screens or something, just to, you know, give people an idea of what you're working on.

Unfortunatly i could'nt seem to acsess your e-mail Illdo. As it has been blocked by the admistrator. So if you could post it on here that would help.

Here are some screen shots from the wad so far.

Those don't look half bad. What source port is it going to be for? It looks like the screenshots were taken with JDoom, (correct me if I'm wrong - I've never used JDoom before), but you said for Doom 2. Are you developing it for vanilla Doom 2?

If so, I may be able to develop a map while I'm not working on Redemption Denied.

Adz123
August 2nd, 2005, 11:27 AM
The screens were in the Risen3D source port, which i think is best port there is, it looks and plays awsome *thumbs* . The Megawad wont be source port specific though. So yes it will be purley designed with the basic (Doom 2) Vanilla features.

i'll try and make a map or two for you. most of my energy is focused on my personal project though, so don't get too attached to me :p

are there any custom textures you are using?

Adz123
August 2nd, 2005, 12:05 PM
All help is appreciated :) . I have added some new textures into my wad, taken from a variety of sources. But i have'nt really used many of them so far. Im sure i'll probly add more as i go along also.

Illdo. I have just e mailed the wad to you.

And XIX IX VII XIII I you can of course come on board if you want. Would you also like me to e mail the wad to you?

I will develop one map for your project. If you have a theme or a specific idea that you'd like me to develop around tell me now. Otherwise I shall map what I initially thought up.

E-mailing me what you have done thus far for your MegaWad is unnecessary. If you'd like to though, go ahead...

That is the original shotgun, 3D'd in the port he was using when he took those screenshots.

Adz123
August 3rd, 2005, 07:32 AM
Yeah, its a 3D interpritation of it. Does'nt really look like the original at all. I like it.

If your making the mega to run with Doom2.exe you should probably test it with Doom2.exe or you might end up with some vis-plane-over-flows. If you'v only been testing it under sourceports like jdoom etc. - they are more forgiving about vis-plane limits. Thus you wouldnt know if it would be stable with Doom2.exe
Anyways it may crash with Doom2.exe without testing your pwad with it sololy :\ so you might want to check in to that.

Good luck man

Adz123
August 4th, 2005, 12:56 AM
Thanks for the advice there Mr rocket. But i have been testing it under quite a few ports already including Doom2.exe. And so far so good. But some of my levels are becoming quite large, so a limit removing port will probly be required anyway.

I'm currently making a level held mainly in tech style, with some gore thrown in. It will be called just "The Machine". So far I made 60% of the level. Does anyone want to see what I have so far?

hey dude, i'll help you out. but, tell me when you expect me to be finished, since i have a level in progress for a project with T3@M D0NU7$, which Sexi Waffles is a part of. (Get back to your map!)

mainly i'm good at maps that are medium-sized with wide open spaces and lots of monsters. (think Dead simple, but not quite that simple).

I've begun work on the map I promised. Thus far, I am quite pleased with it. The only agenda I believe you may have with it is it's size; it will be quite short.

Here are two screen-shots:

whoa, good work on your map, romannumerals. looks awesome.

my map has been started, not a lot finished so far. not as detailed as romannumeral's, but still cool-lookin. lots of computer equipment and automatic doors, zombies and imps all over the place. i'm planning to add in a small battle with a baron or two.

Thanks rustyslacker. I appreciate the compliments.

@ adz123

What was the proposed RSKY texture for the 'second episode' / tech theme maps? Did you have anything specific in mind? Or were your plans to use the default sky textures?

Just go ahead and use the normal Flats / Textures for now, i was maybe thinking of changing those for the next set of maps, but i can sort all that out later.

@ Adz123

Is there a dead-line for this map? I ask so that I can arrange time if needed. I have been busying myself with a book I've been writing and such.

Hi there Adz :). Is your project gonna be limit-revolving finally?. Standard Doom2.exe can be quite limiting for today´s mapping standards... Nah, anyway, I was thinking that I could help you a little with one map since I liked what I played from your project a lot :).

If you wish to, you can send me the wad and textures in a mail (I think you know my mail adress) and tell me what am I to do... If I get to do it, it can be a nice rest from my current project :).

Adz123
August 19th, 2005, 08:52 AM
Ok Danimental, ill send you the wad and stuff asap, and you can give it a play so far. Its looking like a limit rmoving port is going to be required anyway for this wad so doom2.exe wont be needed. I didnt think anyone would even us doom2.exe anyways.

Thaks for offering to help! *giddy*

I can help with the project once I get done with my current map (the last map I have to do for TeamKill). I should be done with it by the end of this weekend or middle of next week. Send me a PM or something about the details and such :)

Images say so much more than words ;) (http://www.retetched.com/teamkill/other/map06new-02.jpg)

O.k Adz :) (BTW, it´s Danimetal, not Danimental :P).

Looks like you´re getting popular with so much contributions ;). Please, don´t forget to indicate a map slot and a theme :D. About the limit removing stuff, I assume it doesn´t mean "Boom compatible" since some ports (I think JDoom specifically) don´t have the Boom implementations on them... Anyway, I´ll try to make something that fits what you ask on size, theme and gameplay.
