doom 3 crashes

I have a problem with my copy of Doom 3. when i start the communications level my computer goes to the main menu and then the computer locks up
. can anyone tell how to solve the problem.
I have checked the speck of my computer and it is fast enough to run this game.
64 meg graphics
512 meg ram
windows xp home
all drivers have been updated

I have a similar problem. Nobody has responded to my post, but someone at Planet Descent said that it may be due to overheating. But yeah, when I go into the main menu, my laptop will lock up and its really annoying.

That doesn't sound like overheating. I have no idea what it could be, but it's not overheating.
