View Full Version : Lack of contests?

I've noticed something about NewDoom's editing contests as of late:
1. There were only two of them
2. There haven't been any as of late
Will there be more to come? I'd like to see some sort of contest for "best scripting" for ZDoom or Legacy (or whatever else has scripting). Heck, I'd like to see any new contest. :D

As long as we get a reliable judge this time (no offense John).

I used to hold some over at doomrepublic, now doom3.co.uk. Its just a pain to hold sometimes, and I wasn't getting very many contestants. I would like to see some here, as I would like to participate.

Same here. Especially because focusing on just one mapping project (for me that is Paranormal) can get boring.

It could be really easy: set the theme on "News"; open a thread with the rules and when the time limit passes, open a new thread with a poll for everyone to vote for, say, a week and we have a winner :).

What contests were here so far?

While I've decided to not map any more, I believe that I could be a neutral and objective judge.

Methinks he said he finished his map somewhere around here...

Sure did. Ugh, the finishing was pure pain!
I like to create (different!) ideas to doom maps, but making them real is a totally different matter. If I could just draw simple maps not having to worry about the crowd complaining about the lack of details, I would probably like mapping a bit more.
Maybe I could map if I wouldn't have to make the levels visually appealing, but not with the rules these days.

You should do a 10 sector competition or a 1024x1024 competition here. The nice thing is the limitations would keep things small keep the time short.

A contest would be fun. I'd definitely take part if we decided to have one here.

Why not take that to the extreme? ONE sector competition WITH 1024x1024 limit!! WOOOO!!!
Praise me for the great idea!
By the way, I'm in. :)

ONE sector competition WITH 1024x1024 limit!!Let's do it. :p
I've already started one myself, so regardless, I'll upload it when I'm done. One thing I've noticed is that I have to stick an extra dummy sector in there, otherwise DB's 3D mode won't work, and none of the GL source ports would run it.
So far I have 1668 sidedefs, 876 linedefs, and 586 vertices. And I'm not even 25% done yet. :p
(BTW, yes, I know you were joking, but I'm not. ;) I just thought it would be fun)

Meh. I'm too busy with my own project.
Although if it were a scripting contest I would probably own all of you with MAP01. :p
