View Full Version : ZDoom full screen

Ok, so this is probably a simple problem, but I can't figure it out. I just got a new machine that is 8-10x faster than my old one. I have installed, Legacy, JDoom, ZDoomGL and all run perfectly.
ZDoom 1.22 installs and runs fine also, but only in a windowed mode. When I change it to fullscreen, the image is completely scrambled, (vertically, it seems). I have no idea what I have done wrong or how to correct this and need help!
Most of the time I never play regular ZDoom, as I prefer GL. Many ZDoom only maps will not run in GL mode, so I need it, and I had it running before in fullscreen without any problem.
So does anyone know what the problem is or how to fix it? Many thanks.

try getting a new version of ZDoom. 1.22 is very old, the current version is 2.0.96 (http://www.zdoom.org/files/lars/96.cab)

Thank you. So obviously there's a more current website that I haven't found. I'll search more then.
I went to zdoom.org and they had a 2.0.63a I downloaded. It turned out to be a .cab file that I had no idea what to do with.
(edit)
Ok, I guess I was at the right site. It says 2.0.96 is for Strife. (I have no idea what that is.) So what do I do with the 63a or 96 .cab file? (seriously!) :)

Download WinRAR (http://rarlabs.com). You can open and extract .CAB files with it.

If you do want to use Zdoom 1.22, then using the same resolution as your desktop resolution should solve the problem you described.
Also Winzip can handle cab files. Perhaps you need at least a relatively recent version of Winzip for that though.

I thought that my 1024x768 resolution might have been the problem. I experimented with the .cab files and found I had an "extract" option. So I extracted them all to the ZDoom folder and it all works great now. I guess the newer version must automatically detect the screen resolution, as I started it and didn't get a window at all. :) Many thanks ! :)

no problem. it dosn't auto-detect your resolution tho, its probably just starting in fullscreen at a low rez. which, in the rare chance it crashes, can cause some severe problems for you (believe me, the windows start button will fill up the whole screen). so next time you start ZDoom, go to options>set video mode and select a higher resolution like 800x600 or 1024x768

Also, while on this topic, you might want to get the latest version of zDoomGL. The 0.75 one that is on the main zDoomGL site is old, buggy, and just plain sucks.
The true latest version, 0.81, is based off zDoom 2.0.96, and is leagues better. I haven't come across a zDoom wad I couldn't play with it yet. And for zDoom wads that make use of the portal trick or the infinite horizon trick that don't render in zDoomGL yet, you can flip it over to software mode, thus making it where you don't need the latest offical build of zDoom anymore.
