Maybe this belongs in the Maps and Mods forums, but I just downloaded a Legacy wad and I found it quite interesting for what I´ve played. It´s located at http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=13603 .

Supposedly it´s reviewed at DoomWorld, but for some computer issues it is not... If you ask me, Legacy wads should be left to review for later when someone can play them... Shame, Legacy wads will never get known this way!!!. I guess you would like to play it since it packs some atmosphere and nice use of 3d floors so far.

If this doesn´t belong here, please move it.

This wad is only held back by Legacy's MANY bugs.

Many of my pre-conceptions about what Legacy could do, and couldn't do are now broken. I rather like it very much! 2 Thumbs.

Yeah, it rocks :). I hope those bugs are only graphical glitches... There´s a limit to what you can do with FS ;).
Doesn´t it play sort like Doom3?.

No, those bugs are not graphical glitches. many people can't run legacy at all, it will hardlock and do all sorts of strange stuff on others systems. However I never experienced this problems on any system myself. Just the regular stuff.

EDIT: this is the heaviest scripted Legacy wad I've ever played.

Oh, I mentioned the bugs as glitches ´cos I didn´t know what bugs was he referring to. If he was referring to the bugs that won´t allow people to play I understand his post now. If the whole code is being re-written for Legacy v2.0 maybe it will be cleansed of old bugs (and create new ones...).

Graphical glitches are not bugs?

I suppose not everyone knows the exact meaning of each word in a foreign idiom. At least me ;).

I didn't say graphical glitches wasn't bugs. I said those bugs weren't graphical glitches, it's a world of difference in meaning here.

And while Legacy's OpenGL mode is quite prone to graphical glitches, like holes and cracks and other annoying things, it's not something that would keep people from playing a good wad set. Whereas a problem like Graf Zahl has where he can't browse the menus w/o Legacy going bellyup on him is a bug which I can understand will keep him from playing Legacy wads.

Yes, yes, I read about that in the newstuff. That´s where I wanted to go, if OpenGl mode has glitches you can try to fix them (hard work, resulting sometimes in destroying your map) or you can leave them as they are... That´s what I do, hoping that can somehow be fixed or played in software.

Anyhow, those Legacy bugs are strange since it runs flawless in some computers and doesn´t even try in others.

Another thing to note is that it, at least from what I've heard other people say, this wad works best on UV. It seems to be missing some required stuff on lower skill levels.

I definitely think this wad set could have used some playtesters before release.

When I first saw it in the idgames archive a few days ago, I skipped over it because of the savegame bug the readme file claimed it had. After hearing people talk about it, I might give it a shot now. Sounds kind of interesting.

That's not a bug that is present in the latest version of legacy (1.42 birthday edition)

Oddly enough, I had problems running ZDoom on my computers. I don't know why but it would just crash, whereas the only time I get Legacy crashes is due to bad GL drivers or memory allocation problems (fixed in C++).

The only port I've seen running fine on everything it claims is Doomsday. Of course Doomsday only runs on Windows... :p

I've already noticed quite a few bugs fixed in the new 1.99 alpha. For example, it doesn't screw with the Windows volume, thanks to SDL. :)

Transparent walls still seem to screw up though. :/

Finally it has a good review on Newstuff :). I hope this and the upcoming Legacy v2.0 can raise the interest in Legacy among the players and mappers.

It did have a good review! Four Flippers a Snorkel and a Goggle even! Too bad fragmented english really puts me off :p

I played up to level 4 before I was called away, and I forgot to save.

Upcoming can mean either tomorrow or in 10 years. 2.0 is always upcoming unless it's either finished or cancelled. Can we please stop the talk about the wait?

In fact, it´s what upcoming means... We can play and work with 1.42 until something else comes out or you can even try other ports. As far as I´m concerned I´m using 1.42 for my everyday playing and mapping, no problem with that since there´s a lot that can be done with it (example... The wad of this thread) and it´s possibilities have been not completely demonstrated. Doing that would make Legacy´s creators happy, I think...

One last word about the upcoming version... We seem to think that it´s gonna be the biggest stuff that will solve all our problems and such. This seems quite quimeric to me: it will be Doom Legacy with new code that mappers maybe won´t notice and some more stuff (at least I think it will be like that).
