can somebody suggest me a map maker please? something simple that i can learn to use in a day or two? AND NOT WinDEU, the maps i made never worked.


oh, and where can i get Dehacked to use with legacy?

I use a combo of Wad Author and DB ;)

dehacked.exe or what iori said :P

Why do you use WadAuthor, if I may ask. Just curious since DB fills all my needs...

Load deh files like you would any other wad file.

I used to use WadAuthor, paied the 30 bucks for it too, but I use Doom Builder now.

Ah well I'v been using wadauthor for so long, I can map in it pretty quickly.
But I use db for its 3d mode.

i love db... but how do i make doors? i tried making them, and they open and close but if i try to go into the next room i get the famed "hall of mirrors" effect...

RustySlacker, maybe you should go into the basics of the Doom engine and also in some particulars on the port you´re using. Withouth all that information you could get a lot of errors.

i'm using the legacy port right now, and everything works great for me. except doors.

and does anybody else find wad'a'holic's avatar insanely inappropriate?!

In most cases when people would send me wads to fix because they couldn't get the doors right in db, the map would just be missing some textures. something you cant really fix easy in 3d mode, its just a matter of applying the texture manually within 2d editing.
or flipping its line defs and reapplying the textures.

about wad's avatar..yes its sorta cough gay cough..

He really went off to ZDoom, didn´t he?. He hasn´t post since... Also, DB tends to delete the unused textures when saving, for example, lower textures for rising stairs are deleted when entering 3d mode or saving or something.

Wad really is a good guy, people should give him more credit.
I'v noticed alot of times when he's posted something up, progress on something or whatever, people would give him a hard time about it.
But yeah i think the avatar should go lol.

Back to db, yeah 3d mode tends to spoil people, me aswell. but when a door or lift is inactive in the editor alot of times people dont seem to check the textures and think its broken.
I know what you mean about the texture problems in db though, seen it also.
But then when it comes to a door for example, if a line def has a 'use' tag to it, well then its defs should also auto flip in the editor..
easy fixes but people dont notice the stuffz and ask for help.
