View Full Version : HELP WANTED for DOOMAS project
Mike 284
March 31st, 2005, 08:30 PM
I been working on DOOMAS (Christmas Doom) for quite a while. I will need some help here. I will need some map testers to see if my first maps are good. I will need 1 (maybe 2) mappers to help me out map level 3 which will be titled Hong Kong. To let you know, I suck at mapping, but I got the first 2 maps done quite well.
If you would like to map, or map test, let me know at
michaelmega@hotmail.com, and I will email you
the sprite wad, the Doomas beta, the Doomas DehackED file.
Thanks for reading!

Okay, I tested your wad.
GOOD:
-Custom graphics
-Custom music and such
-Desent gameplay
BAD:
-Repetitive action (no locked doors or puzzles)
-Misallined textures
-Not very detailed (and not in the good way)
ERRORS:
-None of the doors are lower unpegegd
-Try getting rid of the IDCLEV** warping.
And just call me Mute...

Mute, first of all, I need to know which places do I need to correct. What can I do instead of idclev warping? Thats all I can think of. I need photos of places I need to correct. Where are the missaligned textures??
Can you submit photos? Thanks for letting me know about this. I'll try to correct these errors.

Do you use doom builder? If so, just go through all your levels in 3D edit and fix all the misalligned textures. The "bare rooms" I was talking about are, well... All of them. Try adding a few things here and there throughout all the levels. They are just wide-open rooms, and that is no fun. The un-unpegged doors are all of them, so no need to point out anything there; and as for the IDCLEV**, why cant you just have level 1 then 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. Why do you need 1-3 then like 7 and 8 and then 30 or what ever.

Mute, if you didn't noticed, the first level inside of my house is how it is designed like.
Anyway, back to the topic... what would be the best things should I add to the rooms?
I will place puzzles in this wad. I fixed the unpegged door problems, thanks for letting me on how to correct this problem. If you have any other ideas, let me know.

Things you can add are like tables and chairs. I personally think the rooms are way too big... But that is my oppinion. MY oppinion. You don't need to change anything if you don't want to.
Mike 284
April 4th, 2005, 03:33 PM
Now, here is why I use idclev warping, that is because, I'm using Whacked, Dehacked, and in order for the changes I put to work, you have to be in a certain level. Which BIG open rooms do you want to be smaller?
Mute1788
April 4th, 2005, 03:51 PM
The "BIG" rooms I am talking about are for instance, the first inside room on the first level. There is just WAY too much room. To make that fight room a bit more fun, try to restrict some movement by makeing it smaller. Any huge room that doesn't nessessarily have a boatload of enemies, shouldn't be massive...

I will put more ememies if you like. I cannot make the room any smalller, or there will be conflicts. I'm sorry if the next room after the first is huge, but that is as small it can be. Thx for your suggestions!

By map, do you mean make it for you?

By map, do you mean make it for you?
Yes, thats what I mean. I'm not a good mapper, at all. So while I do the graphics, someone can map, thats my plan for level 3.

April 10th, 2005, 06:54 PM
Well, I might be able to lend a hand. What are you planing on doing for level 3? As long as it's not anything big; I am already working on a map for Unholy Alliance and my own megawad, so yeah.
If you don't want others to know, send it to Mute1788@comcast.net. Drop a reply to let me know though.

What I plan to do, is have the city Hong Kong mapped. If you are already working on a big project, then, I will suggest that somebody else should map this.

Is there any users here who can do map 3? I would like for it to look like Hong Kong. If you can help me out, please post a reply, and I will much appreciate it.

It has been a week already, no reply. I really need help here, no jokes! I need at least one mapper to help me map out level 3, as a reward, you will be credited for your work.
Anybody willing to map?

I'm not playing!!!! I really need help. I'm not an experienced mapper and I promise that once the mapper that joins this projects starts mapping, I will continue making custom gfx.

Well what an nice reward that would be,but don't forget many mappers are working on their own project.
And therefor don't have the time or the patience to help someone else too.
You can learn to map,it will take some time but eventually you will get the hang of it,there is no rush.
Does this project have an deadline or something cause its seems you want this project done as soon as possible.
Mike 284
May 7th, 2005, 01:41 PM
Exactly!! I want this project done as soon as possible. I want to get this done by July.
On July, its the event of "Christmas on July." And I think this project will take loads of time. I know how to map, but Mute does not have full satisfaction with my maps. Either it is too big, or not enough detail. And I don't know how to make buildings that surrounds the outside. Besides, it will be difficult to do 2 big things at one time. This is why I posted a request to have a mapper do the mapping while I'm doing the gfx. Just in case you want to know why I'm double posting, here is the reason. I'm doing it because I don't want my topic to get on the very bottom of the list. If this reason sounds like shit, don't complain. Just deal with it. As soon as I get my webpage on the server, I will let you know about the link.

hex(a?) just means six times something. gon means either sides or corners, I don't know which.
Of course, I may be wrong, but as we all know, there is nothing smarter than me in the whole universe.

er.. there are rules against bajillion-posting, so you may end up finding your topic locked instead, which is probably what you want to avoid. A good sentement would be "Don't start a project unless you can finish it yourself".

Yes you got a point there.
Mike you probably get more replies if you show some of your work, some of us like to know what you have done so far.
Screenshots would be a nice way of showing it IMO.

Well played your wad, and to be honest with you it looks awful.
Large big areas with way to few detail to it, I got the boring feeling almost right from the start.
There was nothing exiting to look at really, only big ass areas that where heavily underdetailed.
It just doesn't look nice, I didn't took the effort to use your sprites but I did took a peek at them with XWE.
My advise is learn to map better, play more other authors wads load those it to doombuilder and learn from them.
Because you really could use some more mapping skills.

This is why I'm looking for mappers. I wasted my time...
I told y'all I suck at mapping, I told y'all. I don't know what to do anymore! *plop*
It took a TRUUCCK load of time just to do MAP01... If I resized MAP01, guess what, bigger conflicts. Look, here is a deal. While some are mapping, I will continue working on the graphics. Ok?
FATAL
May 14th, 2005, 03:22 PM
I tried them too, and I must say, while the overall quality was incredibly bad, the wad had potential.
The lack of detail doesn't really matter to me, but the fact that I needed to use cheats to get past the first outdoor area does. Also I ran into these dead ends all the time, In the map where you need the blue key to open a door, I couldn't find one. Also there's loads of stuff on platforms which you can't reach. Fix those problems. A map being impossible without noclip isn't a map.

I'll have to mail to from yahoo ok? and another thing is i can't even run your wad, i'll see what i can do with it. btw you seem to have a little bit of knowlege on how to make wads.
Mike 284
May 15th, 2005, 11:58 AM
*confused* No way. You should be able to run it. First of all, make sure you have zdoom, or zdoomgl. on the command prompt, type CD\[the directory you installed my wads and .deh] and press enter, of course, and then type: zdoom doomasb0 sprite doomas8.deh, then the wad should run.

I ran it with legacy. Legacy has a good support for custom wads and dehs.

for some reason i can't run your wad, but your mods still work. i'll figure it out, and btw, *bang* rock on!
Mike 284
May 20th, 2005, 04:44 PM
Look, all you have to do is 1. Open the command prompt. 2.type CD\[The directory where zdoom is installed] 3. Press ENTER. 4. Type zdoom doomasb0.wad doomas8.deh sprite.wad 5. Press ENTER, and the game should start.
