I recently moved, and everyone up here calls it "pop", whereas where I moved from, GA, everyone called it "soda". So I was telling my friend how I had to give up soda for lent, and that eventually somehow became an argument over whether to call it "soda" or "pop". So my question is: what do most people call it? Just curious...

Whatever it says on the label.

In the midwest here, people say "pop". I however, am the oddball and say "soda". My cousin who lived in Florida for awhile, said "soda" and it just caught on with me. My husband who is from Massachusetts says "soda", as do everyone else out in New England.

I'm the odd-ball here, too. I just can't allow myself to say pop... It sounds too weird to me. I think I've heard people call it soda pop somewhere, but I can't think of where it was...

I live in the south...no matter what it is, its called Coke.

When you ask for a coke, a typical reply is 'What kind?'

When I hear people say pop it freaks me out, and it just sounds way to wrong. Soda I'm okay with, there are many people call it that here(mostly people who weren't born here), but pop i can't stand.

It's pop for everyone here. Everyone who calls it soda (about 5 people) wasn't born here or is really old. Some people use soft drink too. They're weird. ;)

Cola is oftenreferred to as coke, especially by me. Drives me crazy when I eat out and ask for a coke only to have them tell me they only have Pepsi. I don't care because the ice makes it all taste the same. Come to think of it, I also call all lemon-lime pop Sprite. The Coca Cola guys must love me for that. :D

i always called it pop, as most people here (northwest us). somehow i call it soda while i'm at school though, as thats what my friends say. still pop at home though. i agree, when you actually think about it (i'm wiered, my mind wonders). "pop" is kinda retarded or something. i don't know why, but to me it sounds more proper to say soda. lol, whatever.

At least in my family, Ninja and I call it fizzy juice, coke, or by the brand name. So you were fairly close DD. Fizzy water to me is just carbonated or sparkling water. The only time I refer to a fizzy drink as soda is when you have soda cream, a scoop of icecream in somthing like lemonade. Haven't had that in ages.

For me it doesn't really matter what kind or brand of soft drink I get. I like any and all.

I don't know why or how people discriminate between Coke and Pepsi. For me the difference in taste is negligible. And they're not much different from the cheapest C-brands of coke like 3-es, Highway or First Choice they sell in the stores around here either. Same goes for the store's housebrands of coke. I guess it's all between the ears.

They add caffeine to both kinds of coke.
The only diet ones I like are the diet coke with lemon or lime. Those are pretty nice. But for the most part I don't drink much fizzy drinks. If I drink something then it's usually tea, fruit juice or water.

Just for a matter of information, most popular soft drink sin my country (that I can remember)
Coca Cola (normal, light and lemon light), Fanta (normal and diet; orange, grape, orange-tangerine, strawberry; not found anymore or hard to find: Apple, citrus), Sprite, guaraná Kuat (normal, diet and with orange).

Pepsi (normal, diet, lemon); 7up and... gee!I can't remember the name from other pepsi soft drinks that exist around here...

And finally: Guaraná Antartica (normal and diet)

There are surelly others... I just can't remember right now.
