View Full Version : NDCP Conglom Map Idea

I started a new map using some of the NDCP textures and was wondering if anybody would like to help work on it. I have 2 rooms and a short hallway done so far. I thought we might each take a hack at this and come up with a conglomeration that would fit into the megawad, if it's needed. My idea is that whoever posts here and says they want to work on it, I'll give them the map and then they can give it back and then I'll post again and somebody else can have a go. So the first guy who posts gets to work on it next.

Rulez:
- Only those who are currently on the NDCP team can work on this.
- Size doesn't matter. Make a single room or half a level, whatever and then send it back to me....
- Don't use those fake 3d floors.
- Don't use any Cyb's or Spidery Masterminds.
- The theme is mainly tech but if you want to make a hellish area or a goth castle area then go for it.
- About any existing areas that other people have made. Don't mess with them, but you can add doorways and windows to any existing architecture.
- Try to leave at least one spot where somebody can make a door.
- Don't use any of the keys. When it's done I'll probably tweak the gameplay somewhat and might add a keyed door or two just to make it more interesting.

I thought this would be fun and if this level isn't needed in the final NDCP megawad it'll be released as a seperate wad. Here is a screenie of what I did to my part.

This is a good idea. I'm planning to finish Map03 as soon as possible, so after that's done I might help out on this one, too.

Alright I think I'm pretty much finished with what i want to do now, i may ask for it back again later. But I'm having trouble testing it, I think I may have an old version of the resource wad and taht is causing the problem.

Alright...that fixed the problem. I just e-mailed the map to you. I didn't do a whole lot, probably about the amount you had done. So you can ship it off to the next person now. Depending on when it is I'll sign up to recieve the map agian after these other people have seen it, maybe I'll have a few more ideas by then.

I am, actually. But I'm having a hard time trying to finish Map03 right now. I know what I want to do with it, but somehow I just can't seem to get myself motivated to do the work. Maybe I should just contribute a few rooms to this one.

Did some mappage today. I'm trying to figure a way to make this easy to extend without resorting to a bunch of long corridors. The part that Pumpkin built wasn't easy on the extending part. :p

I like the new textures. Its nice to have something to use other than the old standard Doom textures.

I built off DD's hallway. I have two layouts I've been fiddling with. One of them has a lot of neatness to it but starts to become long corridors; the other one is more compact but is tricky to get flowing right. I think I'm just going to use the compact one.

They're feeding you lies! The two are very similar -- especially if you code in a scripting language. :D

Only difference is real programming languages do more stuff, are more flexible, and usually add dozens of extra rules. Coding different things of course brings different challenges.

Essentially I'm just spending so many hours at school coding stuff I don't even have time in the day to come home and map. Since this great pile of code has to be done by Thursday afternoon I think I'll do some mapping then. :D

Yup, I just wander by in the 5 mins every time when I have nothing to do for any given reason. Like right now: James is hacking at some files I need to be in so I can't do anything with them (yeah CVS says it can merge them but we all know it will just break them like it always does...). :p

Mystic, Lutrov then PumpkinSmasher was the order. DoomedAce was in there, but he dropped out so he could work on his own NDCP map. As far as Mystic goes, I haven't seen him around in quite a while. So it might be best to just send it to Lutrov.

The area turned out to be even better than what I thought last time. Hideous demons and a puzzle that'll make you tear your hair out. :)
I even included difficulty levels and a room with "edit here" sign to help Nuxius find a good spot to start on.

Sooo ummmm who wants it next? I don't know if Nuxius is around or not. Xtife you can have it next if you speak up. Just don't take more than a week, please as time is something we don't have a lot of (less than 4 weeks to go).. That goes for anybody else who decides to work on it as well. ;)

[EDIT] THis morning I heard from Nuxius. He now has the Conglom map.

Heh, I didn't even use your "edit here" thinger, as I already had a few ideas for the more techy type stuff that Doom_Dude posted pictures of somewhere in this thread. I probably could have thought of something, but I don't want to linger on this any longer than I need to, and since I already had my idea lined out, and saw two areas off of DD's areas where it would fit in perfectly, I "went with it".

Thinking of it, if you want DD, I can send you the map with the spots highlighted that I will be using, and you can send it to whoever is next in line to build something off of Fatal's puzzle area. Just a thought.

Anyway, speaking of my area, today was the first day I actually got to really work on it (thought I would get a chance Thanksgiving day, but the relatives made that impossible :p). I have one part of my area pretty much done. Whenever I get up later today, I'll get to work on the other part of it. I want to have this done sometime this weekend.
