View Full Version : Question about Risen3D

I'm having trouble running Risen with larger maps that have lots of enemies. Starts out running perfect, but then, as I get further into the map, I start getting all sorts of strange video troubles.

Textures bugging out in wierd places, enemies turning into green rectangular blocks, (flashing in and out of this until they die.)

My machine is just an old P2 350, with 192Mb RAM and a decent video card that usually lets me run games requiring a 500Mhz or better processor. (Alice, Undying, Deus Ex, Medal of Honor.)

I think it must be the allocated RAM, as every map runs fine in "no monsters" mode.

....

I love JDoom, but heard Risen runs much faster. All JDoom does is slow down too much when playing these maps. (More like seconds per frame instead of FPS!) It doesn't start screwing up textures and sprites though. (even though it is way too slow to play.)

So what does Risen do different that makes it play this way?

Whoa! heh, well it's the 350Mhz that should be your first concern. I used to have an old computer with 466Mhz and when I got my new computer with 2.8Ghz P4 and 512 RAM it made the old 466Mhz look like a pocket calculator or something. You'd have to connect 8 of your 350Mhz computers together and it still would be slower. I've been playing jDoom and Risen3D alot and no matter how much stuff it loads it never slows down. Dude save up about a grand and get yourself an up to date machine you won't be sorry.

Does anybody know when we can expect jDRP for Risen3D?

@psyren - What revision of Risen3D are you running ? Are you running any custom ded files ? I have played Deus Vult, Vae Victus, and Ultramarine - All large maps - with only occasional slight slowdowns with many enemies.

@CtrlKeyEmAll - "soon"

EDIT : Regarding models I received an email from Abbs about this. Here is an excerpt from his mail to me ....

"Here are a couple of points ...

Firstly, no Alpha v1.1 models will be used in new R3D standard models pack.

Some models and skins from jDRP 1.01 will be used in the standard R3D pack and I have permission from Dani to do so.

I will only get around to providing a R3D version of the jDRP 1.1 after the official version has been released and again I have Dani's OK on this.... "
