I found some stuff on the Doom movie:

The story follows eight marines, teleported into a command centre of a secret base on a remote planet. There, they learn that something strange is happening and soon monsters start to appear. The monsters aren't from Hell, but rather people mutated by some nasty super-virus although the monsters look very similar to those in the game.

One character is a technician called "Pinky" who has a cybernetic wheelchair thanks to a bad teleporting accident. Pinky later mutates into something remotely resembling a creature from Doom 3. Producers claim that the film will be more of a horror than an action shooter.

There will be loads of shooting though, especially in the end where a large number of sequences will be shot purely in "first-person" perspective of the leading character (Karl Urban). The chainsaw and Bio Force Gun do appear in the film.

--WTF are they thinking. A "nasty super-virus", it's been done! Hello? Resident Evil anyone. And how about this: The monsters aren't from Hell. Nuf said with that... The BFG, or "Bio Force Gun" will be in it, and at least there will be a lot of shooting though...

This movies will probably blow. *chuck*

Well the BFG may be the only good part of this movie. Though there was something I heard a while back that said the movie actually was going to be set on Mars. I can't believe Id is letting the movie industry do this to Doom.

I decided to stop bothering about how much this movie will suck. In fact, I want it to suck. Better to have a few laughs out of it.

Hey somebody oughta make a mod like that for classic Doom and/or Doom³, seriously.

Shoot the Rock, shoot the director, shoot the script-writer(s), mutilate all the dumb fukers that seek to ruin Doom! I'd make it myself if I was that technically knowledgable! *angry*

ok, i do not know everybodys problem! I dont want to be mean, but you all sound like fanboys because one Movie wont follow the story line exactly. A movie needs Story more than anything else, and doom, being a run an gun game, doesnt have much to offer(for a movie, anyway). Constant action does not satisfy the complete public. Plus, people in the general movie audience want more than one main character. If the doomguy was the only main character, thousands will have been turned off. Plus sideplots need to be added, and generally, i feel that im gonna enjoy it more with less resmblence to the game. Look at resident evil, its only loosely based on the game, and it was a good movie.

Changing the story to make the movie more appealing to the general public is only a second best approach. They shouldn't make movies about games to begin with. And vice versa.

Heh, I already said this would have been better as an independent movie. Those guys will put anything in a movie and a lot of the time that's a good thing.

I'm a huge fan of Doom, but I think a live action of it would suck... It'd be watching some guy play Doom 3.

I think it's good they are twisting it a bit.

We'll see how good or bad it is when it comes out in August... Damn. I just realized how long that is...

Well they useta make games about movies (i.e., movie first, game after). That seemed--more often than not--to work much better. Tron was the best example: The movie was about video-games and computers. The game was based on the movie, albeit was released like a couplea months before the movie, to promote it.

That's true, is all well and good, and a good idea. But the trouble seems to be that the story flights too far from the game. Having more than one main-character (or one main- and many supporting-characters) is fine, but the movie seems to lack attitude that is about as much at the heart of Doom as the running n' gunning. A Bio-Force Gun? A virus as opposed to hellspawn? It just looks too bright and sun-shiney.
