Hi every one, my name is Alexander Mikael,
I making a game to Doomsday called Nightmare 3D 2005 Edition
Its an remake of an old game, well "remake" or more like a new game, but use the same monsters,weapons , maps and story, and extra stuff, and offcource in 3D

The visual look will be much better and little different
anyway.. any question? *winky*

Looking good. Nitemare 3D was IMO underrated.

the package that contain Nightmare 3D midi files, there are one song missing, the level3
i have convert the midi file to mp3 by using a uniq mapper and cool edit pro

Very bad news!!!!
The beta is working but the map has been destoyed, a fatal bug has been maded,
i will make the map from scrach but i have all the sources i need and i know how the map looks, so it shouldnt take long time
Anyway i think the map will bee bethet and more stabile when i maked it from beginning

Nightmare3d run in windows xp,
1: dont run full screen, just resize the window
2:the autexect.nt must be in c:\windows\system32
3:if not, search after the file and copy it to c:\windows\system32

The nightmare 3d 2005 will maybe run as stand alone, if not you will need Doom or Ultimate doom

you need ultimate doom if you whant to run the Bonus episode 4 when it relese in the future :)

I have optimized a little more, and its run faster now, the god news is that the mod will maybe be playable whit a Geforce 2 Ti or betther
Since now i optimize the mod for the Geforce 2 Ti 64MB i use now, the reason is beacuse i whant it to make the game playable for older grapich card,
The visual look will be mostly the same, and betther some places

Alextheuser, What are the optimisations you are doing to make it play better on older cards ?

mrinsane: I think i will keep it to the version i making now, beacuse if you have a hi-end grapich card you can handle shiny fx betther and particle fx, and i will dont make the game "ugly" but just take away some unessecery amount of polygons and fx, many thing have to much polygons and will looks mostly the same when i downsample models forexample

the wolfman "a enemy in the game" is optimized, but i will keep the old one so i can be used whit more powerfull grapich card, also i have to optimize the other monsters
the old version of Wolfamn keep the fps to 15 on GeeForce 2 Ti, now it is 60fps on the optimized version

Hi! the Guard enemy in N3D2005 is now optimized and re-coded

Thanks for the enquiry. Amazingly people are still buying both the Hugo
games (see http://www.dgray.com/retro.htm) and I have no plans to release
the source code. In any event the freely available and well documented 3D
engines intended for independent developers are far superior to my code :)
They also have thriving user groups associated with them with other
like-minded people ready to help or throw up new ideas. You'd be far better
off creating a completely new game of your own via that route, I think.

I just played the beta. It looks good.

Doomsday is actually like Doom in better (assuming u have Doom), and you can create mods for Doomsday just like you would create a mod for Unreal Tournament 2004 or Half life 2??? If yes how please?? Do you know any links please??

Hello there , Doomsday is NOT a game, its only the 3d engie that can handle Doom,Heretic and Hexen, by using sources it can run the IWAD files and make evething in the games run correct

About making MODs for Doomsday, you need some tools

1.You need a software that you can mix and make you own, or edit sounds fx and music, you can try Adobe Audition in 30 days. "remember DD can only handle "mono" channel uncompressed wave files, and maximum "16 bit" and 44KHZ or betther, forexample "16BIT 44100 HZ sampling Mono channel" for the sound FX, for the music you can use everthing that FMOD support

2.You need a software to manage everthing that contain 2D grapich, try Paint Shop Pro 8 or Photoshop application for 3d days, to make "Skins,Textures,Lightmaps,Shiny Maps etc..."

3.You need a 3D modeller application like 3D Studio Max or Milkshape, but you can also maybe use Maya whit some plug ins so you can export to MD2 "Quake 2 engie model"
For 3D max it exist plug ins, Milkshape have a build-in md2 exporter/Importer
another option is to try Q2MODELER http://www.quake2.com/modeling/q2modeller/files/q2mdlr83.zip

4.XWE is a nice application to make your own PWAD files "IWAD = main "wad" PWAD add on "wad" "

5.You also need a Map builder, Doombuilder is the best choice i think

6.You need to know how to manage DED files "Defination files for Doomsday"

7.If you whant to modify the source code for Doom,Heretic or Hexen, you need Notepad to write the codes and a compiler called "Microsoft Visual C++ Toolkit 2003" and its freeware

the Doomsday 1.9-beta, is relesed hurray! but sadly , the bias light dosnt draw/render light on objects yet, i also note that the n3d2005.dll are not compatible whit the new DD, i have to convert it, it would be nice if some one can help me whit that , if not it would take more time before i relese a new beta whit DD 1.9 support

This is a little status update: As i say i`m working on the new HUD bar "also Vermil help me"
I have re-cordinate the face hud, just like the orginal "the face are on the left side" also i have cordinate the 3 types of ammo numbers on the hud,
The face-hud contain 10 pain frames, and i have added a top hud,

Good news, the beta 2 is relesed, go and get it :D *kewl*

Install instructon:

1:Install Domsday 1.8.6 in to a new clean directory
2:Add ultimate doom wad
3:rename the file "nightmare3d2005_beta2.exe.bin" to "nightmare3d2005_beta2.exe" and extract it to the new directory
4: Overwrite every file the unpacker ask for

Warning: dont use any other beta or patch in the beta2
You also need Ultimate doom wad to run it

but i can give some info what i`m doing :

At the last weeks and days, i have working for WolfTC, enchange music-tracks for the MOD.
For Nightmare 3d 2005 editio, i have started to prepare the levels for DD 1.9.
thats mean, many of places that have been used dynamic light, will bee replaced whit sector light, but wait.. i know sector light looks "odd" or tecnical out of date, but DD 1.9 whit BIAS light , make sector light looks like you use Dynamic light, but much more advanced and cooler

I hope Skyjake will fix the problem whit BIAS ligh in huge rooms, its looks like the light its twisted over the whole room, when i just whant a circle..

there will maybe be a patch for N3d2005 when DD 1.9 final relese, so you all can test the new light decoration in BIAS light, and hopefully the FramesPerSekund will bee much more higher, also i need to convert the Source codes so it would fit the new Doomsday version

Well well, its so quite here in thise thread.
As we all know, skyjake has returned, hurray!
and he says that DD 1.9 will be relese in Christams time
That will mean, Nightmare 3d 2005 beta 3 , relese after Christmas
I have found the way to optimize the game, some places 100% betther performance, and some places about 1000% betther performance.
forexample, some rooms that the fps whas 8 fps, its now 50-60 fps or more
There are more textures i have worked on, also changed some, to make the visual looks betther

Hi, its seems that a new team member will possible join the prosject Nightmare 3d 2005.

Few days ago, i give him a job to make a Hi-res version of the HUD for N3d2005, and whit succesfull, he made a sweet Hi-res HUD for me.
He have also show me , that he have good skills in drawing on paper, and working on Photoshop.

I asked him to join the prosject, and to draw Concept art of enemyes, so i can make them in 3d models. He`s answer whas positive, so its looks brighter for the prosject :)

Not sure what you mean whit Hi-resolution grapich card.
but if you have 512 MB ram and about ~2GHZ and a GeForce 2 ti or Geforce 3 Ti it should run.

Or you can get a betther card.

the grapich card should have 64MB or more

you can do that, but nightmare3d.wad dosnt contain any doom maps, just to say it.
It will be illigal for me to relese an wad file that contain the doom maps, so i just remove them all

i see, so the first beta is taked and copyed to an another server.
i will point out that you haven't asked me for permission, and i need to say that, you have to take away the rar file, as fast as possible., from you server. "i guess its your server since your nickanme is on the homepage"
the beta 2 is on my server, and i deleted beta 1 beacuse it outdated.
the things you can do is making an info about the TC whit screenshoots, but not include the downloadable file.
i'm sorry if i seems to be very angry, but mostly i just whant to say it.
so remember, PLEASE remove it, the rar file. and always ask me if you whant to do something about my TC, and wait for reply, before you do anything.

Just a little info update, that mostly all the doors/curtians , teleport stairs, and elevators , is completed for level3.
i feelt today, that i should work a bit faster today.
Some issues and bugs have been fixed.
Still, its long before relese.
The plans is too relese the first shareware part "episode1", that would be the next beta.

Progress update:
A little minor update , i have added few new things to n3d2005.
Also a new door, "Bedroomcloset" , a nice wooden door, you can pass to enter secret rooms.
If someone wounder why a write about doors, well, .. they are not normaly doom doors, but in n3d2005, it exist swing doors and slide doors. Also double slide door. and they are in 3d.

Maybe someone feel this prosject remains about Duke nukem forever. maybe, but hopefully, it wouldnt take so long time...
I can just say, it getting closer to be completed every day.
And i still wait for DD 1.9..........

i just wannted to say congrats for your nightmare3d mod i remember that it was the first game i ever played in 3d with my old machine and i was amazed with the sounds and music i remember cuz i dont know why came with another game that i thought it was cool too i was pinball 3d i remember because the music was fantastic even without the soundcard just the speakers ah those where the days... anyway i have a question

The answer is easy, You can't do it yet, that very old beta dosnt support Doomsday 1.9
Anyways, if you really whant to test that old crappy beta, you need Ultimate doom wad file, or doom register wad file, and install doomsday 1.8.6 and then unpack the nite3d2005 beta , and select replace every files it ask for
its only working for Doomsday 1.8.6, you have to wait into the next relese after the Doomsday 1.9 final
then i have plan for relesing the first episode whit 10 levels, not only 2 levels that not working 100%
The final relese, will contain 4 episodes, also 40 levels, i'm not 100% sure, but i'm very sure that the final relese will contain 40 levels and 4 episodes

By sitting some few days , staying up all the night into the morning.

The new plans for Nitemare 3D 2005, is to make the gamplay more horrorfic and more serious

but still, the orginal gameplay will still be keeped, as much as i can

i'm afraid you have to wait long...
its also depend on the relese of DD 1.9 final

as far i can update, i will not re-relise the old beta, also that old beta is lost forever.
it dosnt care for me, since that beta is too old
and i'm afraid i don't have any betas to relese yet, beacuse its too many issues and things to do yet.
if i relese, you would only get a tons of crap and a unstable version
but indeed i will relese a demo after i got a compledet episode1 working whit DD 1.9 final
if we look at the soure files, i got many of the maps from episode1 converted to Doom.
but they need to be done/finnished.
Also that include the gameplay features

but.. if pepole whant to get this prosject faster i need help.

3d modelling for game characters, also include enemyes, "basicly, i only need a good female and a male basic model at the first stage.

don't think about object models, i can take care of that by my self, it isnt that hard to moddeling objects

"but I can't play it on WinXP without getting horrible slowdown " Thats odd, i run it fine on xp, just make sure you dont run it in full screen modus, remember also the compatible modus for applications. you can streech the n3d window so it would fill your desktop to avoid playing it on a tiny little window.

Please explain this "compatible mode?" Yes, I stretched the window completely and what happens is it won't react to my mashing the fire button quickly enough to fire enough shots.

As for that soundtrack... wow. 500 internets to you or whoever did those. Question directed at that person though: do you/they have any plans to remake the rest of the N3D tracks as more than synthesized tunes? I love the guitar in the level 5 music, but the rest of the music just doesn't seem to fit with it (and now that I think of it, I could have sworn the original MIDI sounded like the whole thing was done in very heavy piano, not guitar). Granted, I'd prefer the current soundtrack to something completely redone, by a long shot... the subtle changes in the level 7 music are awesome too. Anyway, keep that up. :P

You can do this for an alternative:

1: download the newest dosbox 0.7
2: Find a copy of Win3.11
3: install Win3.11 via DosBox
4:configurate the sound system in win311, in dosbox
5: Install Nitemare win via win3.11 via dosbox :P

Now it should run fine if you have all the drivers that need to run

Remember to find : Grapich drivers, and sounddrivers ,
and no, win311 will still not atomatic runs the sounds since dosbox emulate it, you need to install the drivers in win311 just like a normal os.

Installing Win3.1 on DosBox? Whoa. That'd be like, so damn nostalgic. XD Awesome.

Can N3D run on Win3.1/DosBox without actually being installed... i.e. running it from its folder? I have all of the appropriate files and it will run in XP, but if I had to do an install of it I'd be screwed because my install disks corrupted years ago (and I can't get the floppy drive on my desktop working anyway).

EDIT: Do you know what MIDI instrument set is best for running N3D? For instance, the song MID01 in the MP3 soundtrack has a melody to it, but when I play the corresponding MIDI file, all I hear is the beat (actually, I never knew it HAD a melody, and in all the years of playing e2m2 and e3m2 I just accepted this fact as "well ok, Gray got lazy" :P). None of my MIDI sets seem to be able to play it properly...

The request for assistant's for 3d modelling, 3d basic female/male model is now closed.
If Harry still would like to help me, as i understand he say'd.
Let's se what this will result.
Maybe i and Harry can get a 3d model of Penelope, maybe :P "penelope is Hugo's girlfriend"

And also a 3d model of the main character "Hugo", include all the enemyes, in the future

i have find my self to get back to Nitemare for Doomsday.
Still there is tons of minor and major bugs.

if someone is fammillar whit Nitemare 3d, i could allways post a todo list, from a little analyse i have had.

Level1:

no secret panels, "wood panels whit books" are working.
the sequence animation is quite lame. i have considering to change it to something more fancy.

some textures are incorrect

the shaders on the floor at the kitchen need to take a deeper look on the defination code.
it's looks a bit incorrect.

the elevators dosnt work.

level2:
No light effects ar setted up, this is not priotory, it will be put on hold until Doomsday can handl BIAS light
some candles are missing the flame.

heavy overflow of loading, can result game crash.

some items make the game crash, i suppose, it have incorrect definations.

no secret panels are working in level2 ether.

level3:

still no panels are working

all trunks are not been coded yet, they all remains open, but still one is corrected , that include the red key.


the silver gun, "pickup object" is not defined correct

many incorrect textures, and the sky is incorrect.


Global errors:

the Zelda witch, fire incorrect attack. need to be changed. and many animations errors are still remains.
secret panels dosn't work
huge overload, make game crash
the HUD need to be tidy up
the HUD face should be changed, it should be used a Hugo face, not sims 2 face
the silver gun need to be betther, its looks a bit lame "in progress"
the silver gun pickup object need to be included, so its possible to pick it up
the wand, should be upgraded in the visual look, looks a bit lame too.
the plasma multi bolt gun, should be fixed up a little bit.
many things, still dosnt have models
the real-time text, should work betther compared to how it's working now

and many more bugs...

The updates i can give you is there is a pretty new idea how the level envoriments will looks.

there arent much to say until the Doomsday 1.9 have come, otherwhise, its pretty much unsure when something going on.

Thats pretty sure, the 3d envoriment concept will be different than a standar TC for Doomsday.

that will requre a higer advanced Doomsday engie.

The true is, it will requre more like 1.9.1 that will take 6-8 mounth after DEng 1.9.0 is done, depends on real life for the DEng team for sure.

There is pretty much left anyways, so it can't go faster anyways

The progress wil anyways going forward, i will not just sitting here and wait and do nothing just becuse DEng 1.9 isnt ready

By plans there will be no beta, other than the first episode relese , like the shareware of nitemare3d, that include the first episode.

The timeline will more logical, there is no point for relesing any betas or demo before the first episode is done beacus of the gameplay features.
If i would relese a quick beta it will looks like crap and i would get a bad reputation, for making crap. and something and something. Got my point?

I'm not a magican guy who can say something and there it goes. it take time.
and there arent much that will going on until DEng 1.9 is relesed. only the progress of the source building

so as usuall. stay calm and wait for updates, and posts, they will come

Thanks, this visual look is something that have been for a while now.
atm i'm working whit source files "grapic and models and stuff" that will pump up the visual, suited for 1.9.0 and 1.9.1

So this video shows something like, expect something less or more betther than this :)

Funny too see someone bump into this old thread, however, there is a time when the rlf get very busy.

I'v been checking around for 3d models , to be used as character in game, but i have been unsure about copyright issues and license, just look at turbosquid.com, they have great affort of 3d models, but it cost money.

I would love too give peole a change to help the prosject, but you have too prove something first. reply me if you feel for something :)

This has going on for a while, a hybrid combination of polygons and skin, in order to make a more realistic envoriment, instand of a flat texture.

here is a test i did, when using some texture elements i will use in the future

In a simple question, what would be expected in this prosject
As a very long shot task, i'v been able to draw many conclusion.
In the nearest presents, i have been able to learning new ways to solve many problems that worryed me in the far past.
We have thise terrific tools where we can extract the very form of an image, and work whit it as a 3d sculp, like ArtCam, we have powerfull and yet easy application that allows us to work whit the very essence of humonoid form, like Poser and DAZ studio.
And increadable realistic grapich design like Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro.
However, yet, there are many more usefull things out there.
By the meanings of thise big words, i would like to hear by free will, what quality do pepole wish to see, from the nature of a adventure game, that have a good pice of "survive horror"

This is the visual quality i speaking of, the gameplay will been consider later

Well, you know I think N3D200x is extremely big. Your old three level demo was about 120mb in a rar and that only included a fraction of the total EP1 scenery and bad guys. Add to that the rest of EP1, EP2, EP3 and that you are now using models for walls (many of which I think could be done just as easily with sectors)....

Bumping this VERY old thread...

Seems like this project is dead, how about the sources so that someone else can still continue?
