Yeah, im making a metal power ballad compelation. You know the ones, the dark, epic minor-key masterpeices that usually involve acoustic verses with crushing, distorted power-chorded choruses. I need help on finding some, so fire away! :D
so far Ive got/thought of:
Led Zeppelin: Stairway to Heaven
Led Zeppelin: No Quarter
Judas Priest: Beyond the realms of death
Metallica: Fade to black
Metallica: One
Metallica: Nothing Else Matters
Pantera: This love
Pantera: Hollow
Alice in Chains: Down in a Hole
Crimson Glory: Trancendance
to represent more recent bands we have:
Anything by Nightwish
Anything by Evenescence
Linkin Park: In the End/Crawling/numb etc.
System of a Down: Aerials
Stone Sour: Bother
I need more classic metal! Any suggestions are welcome!

Megadeth - A Tout Le Monde, or Promises. Maybe In My Darkest Hour but it isn't "delicate" enough to be a ballad even if it is rather sad.
Judas Priest - right now I can only think of A Touch of Evil, Epitaph, and Beyond the Realms of Death is a very good one but I guess there are more and I can't think of them.
That's all my brain can come up with so far.
Don't know about Opeth some of thier stuff sounds rather sad too.
Sabbath? I am not familiar with thier music besides a few songs.

[FONT="Fixedsys"][SIZE="3"]Honourable mentions must go to Bon Jovi with Dry county; Metallica with the unforgiven; Megadeth with A tout le monde; Scorpions with winds of change, and of course, who could possibly forget the song that started it all?
I am obviously talking of Led Zeppelins timeless classic, a song which needs no introduction, I am speaking of Stairway to heaven.
By the way dudes, Im only 15.*guitar* Rock on!

Well now that you mentioned Scorpions, and now that I know them a bit better, I must say that Fly People Fly would fit into metal ballad category very well. The song is very good as well, should I even mention.

I just don't get what's so great about 'Stairway to Heaven' *confused*

I don't find it great myself. I don't really care for Zeppelin at all.
Musically, it's somewhat impressive with how dynamic the song is, though; it starts with just the guitar, and slowly builds up. That's the only cool part about it, IMO.

Got that happening in "Summoning - The Loud Music Of The Sky" too.
Starts with a trumpet, add drums, and then some other stuff.
I'd have to listen to Stairway again to be sure of what I thought of it, its feeling escapes through my nose approximately 20 hours after having listened to it.
