I can host the game alright but when a computer tries to connect it is greeted with the message : "SOCK_send sending to node 32 (255.255.255.255.5029): Unknown error"
I saw that someone has posted this same problem in another thread but it wasnst answered.

Strange error, it almost sounds like your trying to host from your subnet mask ip. heh
I'm gonna try and see if we can clarify things by asking you a few questions.
Are you wanting to host local or on the internet?
also what o/s version, Doom/Doom2 version, and legacy version are you using?
and are you routed?

Rockets unofficial DooM Legacy1.42 Network setup thingy *grin*
Ok , well first make sure all the comps see each other on the network, file sharing stuff like that just so you'll know the comps are talking on the network, I'm sure you know this but it doesn't hurt to check :)
Next , you'd probably be better off hosting the game from the comps that have xp on them, because on a winblows network, windows xp will be looked at as a nt based server.- shrug blame it on ms heh
if your running xpsp2 make sure to "allow legacy.exe as one of the restrictions" in its firewall.
if not running xpsp2, you might just disable its firewall for now.
and that you don't have any other 3rd party software firewalls blocking.
Now on your router, first note the ip of each computer so you'l know prier before setting the ip in the router configuration.
now http to your router. in its port forwarding or game/apps configuration, enable port 5029 udp in/out for each local ip for each comp. e.g port# 5029 udp 192.168.1.100 enable - depending on your routers configuration and the ip of each comp .100 would be the 1st active computer on the network, .101 would be the 2nd and .102 the 3rd. even though that's not always the case , look at it as an example :)
aslong as your good with all that/already know that. save/apply the new settings.
I just wanted to make sure we're on the same page.heh
after that stuff - exe and port fixed up to talk on the net you should' be setup, just launch legacy on your main xp comp with standard doom2 and map01 for the test. - don't use the launchers multiplayer part because sometimes it screws up heh, so just launch it as a normal game from the launcher.
once in game, goto multiplayer. endgame from the multiplayer part of the menu.
then Host the game.
While that's running do the same on the other 2 comps, but Join game of course.:)
goto local and join your server. it should be waiting on you to show up. ;)
or console command connect to the ip if wanted. connect 192.168.1.100
in any case, by this time you should have a flawlessly smooth Doomlegacy lan/net game going. *bang*
it really should be that easy, but if your still getting erorrs? i would try deleteing and reinstalling legacy on each computer. - just backup your wads first heh. and review the above.
Hope that helped, good luck :)
