It seems that spreading gmail invites through newdoom is getting hopeless, everyone either has one already or doesn't want or need one.

well considering the supply exceeds the demand, i think going elsewhere will help, btw i have 6 to go also

You can choose any name you want. (if its not already taken) You can only get a gmail account by someone who has invites who already has a gmail account. (if that makes sense) It's just email....1 gig of space.

January 2nd, 2005, 12:23 PM
ONe gig if you're using a decimal number system. It's technically only 1000MB. :p

I think I have five invites. I've been trying to give them away for months. I heard there's a program to donate them so soldiers in Iraq can use them to talk to families. Might be worth looking into that.

Who cares about privacy. I haven't got anything to hide. They can have the information in my emails. They can have the information on what I search. They can have the number to my bank account... No wait, they can't.

Oh, BTW, I got another 5 invites left.

LOL That Google prisoner thing wasn't censorship. It was them being too lazy or busy to redo their image index in three months.

Google isn't anymore evil than Yahoo! or whatever else with regards to what they do. Gmail's privacy stuff is more honest than other like Hotmail. You can bet your money every e-mail provider that isn't your ISP (and maybe your ISP) is logging your mail and quite possibly searching it with computers. Meh. I bet that thing is so stupid that you could fill your inbox with all manner of illegal stuff and it would advertize a lot of it to you. At least it would if they signed up advertizers of illegal stuff.

Don't know about Google's but Yahoo's privacy policy has been tested. (http://www.betanews.com/article/Yahoo_Denies_EMail_Access_to_Family_of_Dead_Marine/1103748414)

-- Ace's Get-rich-quickly-scheme nr. 389 --

Step 1. You start with six invites. Sell five on ebay for $2. That's $10 profit, provided you received the first account for free.
Step 2. Create a new account with the last invite. Revert to step 1.

Given an endless demand for invites, it's quite lucrative if you ask me ;)

Until they stop the beta program and open it up at least.

I think that your business needs a little balancing.
Right now you'll get money early, but you'll lack invites to survive in the long run. You should for the first 5 times keep all the invites to yourself. This way you'll get 7776 invites in no time, and THEN I'd start making business. I'd get 15552 euros every time I get new invites. My company would then buy your cheap company when I have enough money to do so.

And then, Microsoft would come, buy you, and get more money out of GMail than Google itself :)

I would overprice myself. 100.000.000 would be a nice price.

No you don't. Increasing the supply of invites by such a large amount in a short time period would, given fast reaction of buyers, slash invites prices. So both our companies would go bankrupt.

I've got a better deal. Our companies will form a cartel and we jointly buy all the invites out there. Then we increase prices by 750% and start selling those invites again, small bunches at a time. Of course we're going to split the profits, equally. That way we'll be able to rip off the friend-less part of the world population. *evil business man laugh* (http://homepage.uvt.nl/~s430017/evil.wav)

FATAL
January 21st, 2005, 07:17 AM
Now that's more like it!

Shall we say that a stable price of 20 euros per invite should be enough?
We'd have to sell about 500 of them in a month to get some good profit.

*squint* I'm really starting to believe that Google is reaching for world domination...

This reminds of the way drug dealers work. First. they give the drugs away very cheap, even for free. But when you are addicted to the drugs, they want more and more in exchange for them.

What could Google possibly want? All your money? Sex? All your personal data? What are the reasons for them to give away so many free accounts? Google isn't a charitable company, so they must have a financial reason in mind... it worries me. ;)

Would be neat if Google published a map of the Gmail invites linking back to the first one. Goldeyes is probably one of the biggest nodes. :D

GoldEyes
February 12th, 2005, 11:01 PM
I just don't get it though. Why don't they just make it public now? I mean giving EVERYONE 50 invites is SO pointless, EXPECIALLY after already having about 50 total before these 50, lol.

Aliotroph?
February 13th, 2005, 03:28 AM
It's Google's policy not to take anything out of beta if they think they'll make big changes to it. Some of there services have been in beta for almost 4 years. :D
