View Full Version : More news on my recruitment!

OK, so as the regulars here know, I've been working towards joining the Royal Navy for the past 8 months. Well today was the day the last step was taken in my recruitment phase, the PJFT (Pre-Joining Fitness Test).
The task was to run 1.5 miles (2.4KM) in under 12 m 20 s. If I did this the next step would be me being sent down to HMS Raleigh for my 8 weeks basic training.
Well anyway, good news is I PASSED!!!!:D I ran it in roughly 10m30s and boy did I feel it afterwards, with sweat pouring off me for the first time ever.:p So I'll be getting a letter from the AFCO (Armed Forces Careers Office) to tell me when I'll be off some time next week I'm guessing. Don't worry though, I was told I may not be off until March but the chances are I won't be and it'll be longer to wait, but I don't care TBH i'm too happy. I'll keep you updated.
Well the boards needed SOMETHING to brig hten it up as of late.;)

A bit under two and a half kilometer in a bit over 12 minutes doesn't sound very tough, as you probably noticed after the test.
Since I posted here, I suppose that I'm forced to congratulate you.

FATAL, it was unde 12 minutes. It was maybe not too tough but you know it was hard work afterwards.

It doesn't sound tough, but you do need some training to acheive it. I am a runner myself and could probably do that pretty easily. My 2-mile time is 10:58, but I've been running for a while, and am still no where near the fastest group. My older brother got two miles in just under 9:00. But for people who don't run all the time, that isn't a time you can just go out and run. It does take some training and effort to achieve, and it takes a lot out of you when you finish.

Of course, I've ran it, I know that it's tough, but the test wasn't as tough as I was suspecting. It could've been a bit more difficult.

Yeah so maybe it isn't hard but you wouldn't believe how many people can barely run 100 meters.
Look not meaning to sound mean but my brother has been working really hard for this and the last thing he needs is people saying that he has only achieved it because it was easy.I'm happy and this is the best news I've heard in a while in my family. Believe me the hardest stuff is yet to come.

Yeah come on guys. Enough saying you can do it. this thread is about ME celebrating passing my last test, not whether you can do it quicker or someone you know can. And considering it was on a treadmill things tend to be different. I couldn't adjust the speed or whatnot accordingly, one set speed. outdoors I'm faster. Now enough of this. The thread's already nearly dead.

Nah, that wasn't my intention, sorry if you got that expression.
One thing bothers my mind though. Now that you passed through the test, does this mean that we won't be seeing you as often as usually?
Good luck with the future job.

Congrats Ninja. I don't care if it was or wasn't tough, it's just good that you passed. :D

then you wouldnt like our summer p.e program here in ohio, Usa.
i had to run 3 miles, we spent the whole month preparing for it. geez, jogging 3 miles a day sucked.
also, im prepared to run more once i attempt to join the USMC.

I did something similar to that test this morning. I ran 1.6 miles in 12 minutes. However the machine wouldn't let me run any faster, since my training program is cardio-based, such that it slows down whenever my heartrate rises above 160 beats a minute. Too bad.
I'm more of a biker than a runner, anyway :)

thats not too bad but in the United States Marine Corps in order to get sent to recruit training you have to run 1.5 miles in 13 minutes, 3 dead hang pull ups, 62 crunches in 1 minute as the initial strength test. if you cant do this they wont even ship you out to recruit training until your ready and you will have up to 12 months to reach your goal. they do this now to avoid having recruits who are too out of shape to go through recruit training but every now and then they get those recruits that are in shitty shape and send them to something called physical conditioning platoon where all you do 24/7 is hardcore pt till those recruits are able to pass the initial strength test. this will put the unsat recruits behind in their evolution but if they dont completely mess up they will be able reach their goal, only to face 91 days in hell.

Well that would be Royal Navy Marine Engineer Mechanic.
Listen, just leave this alone. He got through it and as I said the real work, the physical and the technical side to his training is yet to come. After the crap my bro has been through he deserves this seeing as some people seemed to not believe he was worth much.

No kidding! Ninja has been through a lot and this isn't some silly "come tell me how you did better in this this and this" kind of thread. Ninja deserves a YAY and CONGRATS for what he has been through. Lots of people would never even consider doing what he has done/is doing.

Ugh, I can't believe how sad that whole mess about the marines was. Ninja obviously isn't going into something like the marines (which you would know if you had read the thread).
GoldEyes and She-Wolf are right yet again. :)

what Ninja left out was the part about making the run with full pack (weighs about 60lb)
even a fit and trained runner wouldnt relish that task.
Congrats Ninja, ignore those plonkers trying to make themselves seem tough or whatever. we can both go over there and kick their asses some day.

Hehe, cheers guys and thank you Goldeyes. While I would have said I deserve a YAY and CONGRATS myself I thought I would have looked daft If I did so.But thanks to you and sis for starightening this whole thing out. i get sick of this macho (sp) talk people have been giving me.
No packs BTW Mystic. That's left for the Army/Royal Marines although 60lb wouldn't be so bad methinks. My schoolbag must have weighed that much and no kidding either. The amounnt of junk they made us carry really hurt my back. Just glad they didn't make me swim, that comes in the 8 weeks of training thankfully.:p
LOL, the 'Hoots' part I don't know, but 'Och aye the noo' stuff is essentiall 'Oh yes the now'. We have a second language here. It's genius.:D

Ha yeah I wish they taught us languages much earlier than leaving it to high school when it is a bit harder to pick up stuff like that. Sure if I put my mind to it I would learn a language that I want to learn and not because it's a case of either French or German, I kind of fancy Arabic which they say may become rather useful in later years and my Dad knows some since he worked out there, Japanese or Polish or a Scandinavian one! They don't exactly teach those in school.
