"The screenplay I wrote DOES differ in a number of ways from the games. I want to be very honest and forthcoming in saying that, and I know that I won't make any friends amongst the fans of the game in doing so. But it should be mentioned that it was never the goal of anyone involved in this film, from myself and the producers to the studio to the guys at id, to make a direct film adaptation of the game(s). The thought process has always been to create an extension of the Doom universe that will give fans an interesting new take on the themes that they've come to enjoy in the game. Because let's be honest here: as far as a completely immersive and cinematic experience, we were never going to top Doom 3 anyway, and we all knew that. Instead, we have toyed with some elements of the game, and yes, I am pretty much solely responsible for that, since it was my pitch and my screenplay that got made. Let me assure you, though, that the themes and elements that you love about Doom are ALL represented strongly in the film...just with some new twists."

blah blah blah... Everybody knows they will make another cheap Hollywood popcorn movie, and he's talking about it like he's The Wachowski or something... Yep, WAK is right, it's bullshit. "Some new twists", heh.

At least he admits he is the only one involved in writing the script. Good.
Now we know we only need to snipe one person after the movie turns out to be crap.
BTW, he sounds like a politician. In that he talks a lot of bullshit but never gets to the real point.

This is just a perfect example of the saying "don't fix it if it isn't broken." You think that screenwriters and people would learn that fucking with the game's story is what ends up with shitty movie adaptions to games. Oh well, I have faith in the new MK movie, atleast they have a good director and the original actors back from the first.

I'm gonna go way off topic ;) Yes. There's a 3rd movie being made, it started filming this last fall. It's going to be based on MK: Deadly Alliance, with the main villains of course being Shang Tsung and Quan Chi. They've got the original actors back for Raiden, Sonya, Johnny Cage, Liu Kang, and Scorpion from the first movie. They've also got a good director. I have faith it'll turn out to be as good if not better than the first. Also, New Line Cinema doesn't have the license to it anymore, it's Threshold Entertainment now, so we won't have the cheese that was Annihilation :) The director is also interested in doing another movie after this one, which would make sense because if you know the Deadly Alliance storyline and the current MK, Deception, storyline, that the two MK's tie right in with the other.

I look at it like this.
All we should do is post the DOOM FAQ Story onto all our web sites, and tell people there that the guy who made the movie did not follow the original storyline.

Yeah read his full explanation, its more insulting than the bloody (or lack thereof) script idea.
To me, this reeks of a studio capitalising on the Doom name but avoiding the satanic elements in order to get a lower rating and maximize profits. Id are evidently giving it the thumbs up :-|
Hey they are a business and will make money out of it, they probably will take the film's content as serious as we do, not much.
Doom was based on Aliens, so if you want to see a good film see that. If you want to play a great video game, play Doom :-)

I'm still going to watch it, I knew it wasn't going to be based on Doom since the beggining....
Hell, it might make a good movie... As long as it isn't a 12A... All of those 12A films stink out loud.

It's not even taking place on Mars, it's gonna be on... Olduvai. Why most hollywood butcher all of my favourite games? I mean the Street Fighter movie blew but that was probably the greatest game series ever.

That sounds even worse than the actual movie.
Fan-based includes a budget and actors who can do more than wear masks and growl.

I was never one to be bothered by changes in adaptations - but if the news of it not being anything to do with hell/mythology is true, then I'm pissed off, as hell being unleashed via science is what DooM was all about. Take that away and it's just not DooM - might as well be Half-Life.
However that information only came from one website, and all other sites I've looked at haven't mentioned the lack of hell. It has been mentioned that it's on an 'unspecified planet' instead of mars/phobos/diemos, but that doesn't bother me so much. I mean DooM 64 was mostly about Jupiter.
The idea of people turning into the demons isn't that farfetched either - I mean in DooM 3, a few of the demons are either hinted at to be transformed people or parts of people, in the style of John Carpenter's The Thing, and other enemies' designs seem to hint that it was once part of a human, which has 'fallen off' and transformed into something else. But if the bullcrap about some alien virus is true, that kind of kills it - again - that just turns it into Half-Life or The Thing or a Zombie flick - it's a theme that's been done to the death. Keep the hellish overtones and it will still be DooM and will still be as interesting and cool as the DooM story - get rid of them and you downgrade it into yet another ripoff sci-fi flick.
The Orichalcon

DJ, it's been specified that the transformations are due to a "virus" ala Resident Evil. And I doubt the virus comes from or has anything to do with hell (it would be stupid if it did.)

You can't picture an imp in a white coat concocting a virus?
