View Full Version : My DOOM Project

Hey everyone! After playing many many wads with modifications and mods, I decided I wanted to make my own MegaWad (using Doom 2) with my own modifications. Of course, I'm gonna need your help. I even have the story of the WAD written down if anyone would like to read (and modify) it.
This is, of course, my first wad, but I've taken a week to learn the basics of map making. I still need to learn about modding Doom. I wanted to add some weapons (all Doom related. Ex. Rifle from the Alpha version of Doom and machine pistol from Doom novel).
By the way before I get too far, I better find out the bounaries of Doom. Is Dehacked and Whacked what I should use to make new weapons? If so, which one works better?
I know I sound way too noobish to bring the project to life, but I know I'll be able to do it, I just need your help.

I strongly recommend you start off your editing with simple maps, not a megawad. Good megawads are a rare thing to pull off in most cases, and a beginner would have a tough time making one.
Anyway, good luck if you decide to make one.

[NEWPROJECT]
First you forgot the New Project Tags.
Second it sounds like you don't even know how to edit Doom yet.
Third, once you figure out how to edit Doom, you shouldn't start off with a Megawad. Start off with single maps to build up your skills.
Fourth, you will need a Dehacked Editor, as well as XWE or WIntex to change weapons, they you'll have to go get an editor to make maps, a good graphic editor to make your weapons, a nodesbuilder(depending on what port, you'll have to make a good decision on this), and you'll need lots of time to make 30+ maps for a game that you don't even know how to edit yet.
I'm sorry I can't help you with your project, I have my own to work on at the moment, and lfe is quickly getting in the way of those. But Good Luck.

Ha ha ha, I'm terribly sorry. Anyway, I'm not really asking for help. I plan on doing smaller projects before I start this and work my way up from there. Heh, I'm such a noob.

in short,
there's actully a ton of doom type editors out there but these are the ones that have been kept up or are mostly up to date.
get :
WadAuthor , Doombuilder and Deepsea.
These are map editors for Doom - yes the ones that get mostly used.
find the one your comfortable with and stick with it. -start a relationship like no other and fall in love with it ;)
make your map/pwads from scartch one at a time.
you can merg them as a mega wad later on with Wintex or Xwe.
Dehacked , WhackEd - sprite/thing type hack programs ,ei. make you shoot a imps fireball in place of your rocket laucher.
Wintex , XWE , are a few of the graphic/sound editor that mostly get used , they work well hand in hand , also with your favorite paint programs and sound editors.
midi2mus.exe is also an alt proggy to convert midi to mus format so something like wintex can put it in your wad.
ZenNode and GLbsp are GL node builders , everytime you make a map you run a node build on it and save your work , or the editor does it automatically , gl node builders do the same thing but for opengl render.
also depending on which "Doom sourceport" you plan on making your wad(s) for , they each have a hand full of editing features very much worth looking into. - aswell as scripts you could addin ei. ACS or Fragglescript depending.
most everything you should need can be found in this usefull link :

and here in the forums.
hehe you dont have to call it help , but never the less theres some help ;)
