sorry if a similar topic exists, but theres too many to find it
heres my rig:
2000 Athlon XP (1.7ghz oc to 2.1ghz)
256mb DDR333 Ram
64 GeForce 2 MX (61.77 Nvidia Driver)
20 Gig (5200rpm) hd
i tried playing with the lowest settings, 640x480, everything off (shadows, ...)
and it went like 10fps in that checkup room, after a while it raised to 20fps, but every time a door is opened or some new object appears, it takes like 5 seconds to render it
im pretty sure its because of ram (and some video card)'s fault
if anyone had a similar rig, what did u do to raise the fps and rendering speed so the game is playable (on any settings)
will the Pk4 tweak and Cache tweak help?
what else did u do to raise the fps (besides those small little tweaks that change the mapping and the lighting cause that didnt help at all)
waiting for an answer, thanks!

It wouldn't cost much to upgrade that, you can get good 256mb graphics cards for very cheap now, and an extra 512mb RAM for cheap too.
Basically there is nothing you can do to make doom 3 run faster,On my computer it runs on an average of about 15fps and I have 768mb pc300 RAM, 128mb GF FX5200 ultra, and an athlon xp 2200+ and a 40GB hdd:( so to run doom 3 well you need a super computer, or atleast 512mb DDR RAM.

fixed the problem:
i installed voodoo 2 patch (and set it a little higher) and now it goes 40 fps, of course the graphics are like unreal tournament 1, but its fast and its fun

you could just buy a radeon 9550. thats what i used on my athlon xp 3200,1gb of ram
should be good enough to run at lowest settings. im using a ax-800 pro now though *burn*
or you could wait for the xbox version and experince doom 3 in all its castrated glory the same way you would with a low end rig.

its not the video card problem, but rather the ram, which i am gonna buy these holidays, then i might buy a video card l8er
i uninstalled doom 3 right now, cause with the v2 patch, theres no shadows or darkness so its imposibble to play

YYou shouldn't use the Voodoo 2 patch unless you're running a voodoo 2 graphics card which it seems you aren't which could cause big problems.

Well, you're faced with two significant issues. First: 256 MB RAM isn't enough to run Doom 3. It was id's original target, but they realized that it wasn't feasible in the end. It should be quite inexpensive to pick up another 256, and that would bump you up into a comfortable bracket.
The video card is still an issue. It isn't officially supported, but the Geforce2 MX should be able to take advantage of the NV10 rendering path; you'll simply need to run in 512*384 until you can upgrade. To do this, bring down the console and type:
r_mode 2 *
The game will look bad, but it's better than nothing. I second the Radeon 9550 or a low-end Radeon 9600 as an upgrade path; stay away from the 9600SE, and away from any card with 64-bit DDR memory for that matter. A stock GeforceFX 5700 (or 5700LE) would also be fine; just don't get one with 64-bit RAM. I stress this because it hobbles any card equipped with it dreadfully.
* You could technically run the game in 400*300 or 320*240, but it will look bad enough to be basically unplayable. If you're really curious, substitute either "1" or "0" for the "2" here, and hope for money to upgrade.
